“The collection this season is about transcendence- moving from the earthly realm into the light. We wanted the makeup to reflect a sense of purity and illumination, so we focused on gleaming, luminous skin and a metallic blue liner on the inside of the eye to light the eyes from within,” says James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry.

Lead manicurist and butter LONDON Global Color Ambassador, Katie Jane Hughes, drew inspiration from the space-like/psychedelic vibe of the fabrics and patterns within the collection to create the nail look.

She used a technique called water marbling to create the nail design, with the agate stones that inspired the A/W ’14 collection as her guide. Each nail (675 in total) was made by hand last night by Katie and her team—with no two nails alike. To achieve the look, Katie poured drops of several Nail Lacquer shades (Yummy Mummy, Diamond Geezer, Posh Bird, Pearly Queen, Billy No Mates) one after another into a bowl of water, creating rings of color, much like agate. Once the color had been placed, Katie took an orange wood stick to swirl the colors together, creating a range of patterns. She then dipped the press on nail into the water, letting it sit under the water’s edge just below the pattern she wanted to lift onto the nail. Once removed, the pattern below the surface was transferred to the nail. To add playful variation to the nail look, two different base colors were used, Nail Lacquer in Trallop was used on half of the models nails and Nail Lacquer in Teddy Girl was used on the rest.

Mila Kuni's Makeup Look at 2014 Golden Globes

Celebrity Makeup: Get Katy Perry’s Makeup & Nail Look at 2013 AMAs

November 26th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Last night at the 2013 American Music Awards, singer Katy Perry rocked a cute polka dot Oscar de la Renta strapless gown with matching nails and her signature red lip.

Katy Perry's Makeup Look at 2013 AMAs
Makeup
Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey created the beautiful look on Katy using CoverGirl Cosmetics.

“The moment I saw Katy’s beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown I knew we would do a red lip. Pairing it with black liner and lots of lashes we created a look that is “classic Katy.”

I started with a sheer application of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Buff Beige #825. This foundation is perfect for the red carpet because it provides full coverage but can be blended sheerly for light yet durable coverage. It lasts forever and the 20 SPF is great for a daytime red carpet event because they have to stand in the sun for so long!

For the eyes, I started by creating a classic Hollywood eye line using CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire #410. I love this pencil because you can create the look of a liquid liner but it’s much easier to apply. I accentuated the crease of her lid using Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel #330 and finished with the new Bombshell Volume Mascara in Very Black #800 – it creates extreme volume!

I then set the foundation with a light dusting of CoverGirl + Olay Pressed Powder in Light #330 and warmed the apples of her cheeks with Clean Glow Blush in Roses #100. I finished the look with a classic bold red lip. I used CoverGirl LipPerfection in Hot #305 with matching liner. I used the liner to perfect her lip shape before applying color.”

The Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara makes lashes ten times more noticeable than bare lashes! It’s amazing!”

Nails
To match the polka dots on Katy’s dress, celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees created a custom mani with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Triple Shine Nail Color in Slick Black as a base color. Then, she dotted on Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in White On to create the polka dot effect. For a flawless seal and shine, Kimmie used Sally Hansen Triple Shine Top Coat to finish the look.
