Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Do you plan your makeup in advance when you go on vacation? Or do you just bring enough to give you choices and decide there?

If it’s a quick trip, then I try to plan out the one or two looks I plan to do so I don’t bring everything! If it’s longer, than I try to pack a good variety of color/neutral across product categories and figure it out there.

Thanks to Elise for today’s question! Got a question idea? Submit yours here.

“We had in our minds this idea of moving objects coming to life,” said designers Shane Gabier and Chris Peters. “It’s quite psychedelic, a little triply with the acid greens and purples.”

“We didn’t want to see the makeup before seeing the clothes but still wanted a strong look,” said James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry. “It’s very chalky and very 90′s. To balance the chalkiness in the eyes, we gave a luminosity to the cheekbones.”

Beauty Breakdown

  • Face: Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer – new for Spring 2012; for a similar affect try a light application of Sheer Glow Foundation, Bilbao Lipstick – new for Spring 2012; for a similar affect try Belle de Jour Lipstick
  • Eyes: Pastel blue created specifically for this look and not yet available – for a similar affect, try Heart Of Glass Single Eyeshadow, Bolero Velvet Matte Lip Pencil
  • Lips: Tashkent Pure Matte Lipstick

SPA Resource Brushes

On February 10, 2011, in Celebrity Makeup News, by Sarah

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

I’m a big believer in using good makeup brushes. I also don’t feel that, unless you’re a professional makeup artist, all your brushes don’t need to be highly expensive brushes. And I even know makeup artists that have a wide range of brushes in their kits in a wide range of prices. I myself have some high quality drugstore brands and some high quality big name brushes. So when I was asked to try the brushes from SPA resource I honestly didn’t have high expectations. Partly because of the price, I thought these would be cheap brushes. Definitely not so.

I was sent the Pro-Series Powder brush and the Pro-Series On-The-Go Eye Essential Kit to try. My first thought – this Powder brush looks just like the Bobbi Brown Face Blender Brush, but I was sure it wouldn’t perform well. Guess I was wrong. This is an all natural bristle brush with a solid weight handle. It’s even more dense than the Blender Brush by Bobbi Brown which sells for $45. The SPA Resource brush – on sale right now for $10.40. Seriously. That’s not a closeout price either. Normally it sells for $13.00. This is an amazing brush that is affordable to everyone! Perfect for applying powder or blush to your face.

The eye brush kit comes in this travel bag with a pouch for other beauty necessities. Again, these are incredible brushes for the inexpensive price of $12 (reg. $15). I recently took these with me on my trip to NY and when my luggage FINALLY arrived, I was able to see how well they performed. Excellent. The kit includes

  • Eye Sweep Brush
  • Angled Eye Shadow Brush
  • Cream Shadow Brush
  • Eye Smudge Brush
  • Liner & Brow Definer
  • Brow & Lash Definer

A serious bargain for seriously great brushes!

11 Back to School Makeup Looks

11 Back to School Makeup Looks

  • Keeping it light is always a favorite way to do school or work-safe makeup. It’s flattering, effortless, and you’ll never look overdone.
  • Brighten up tired eyes with pops of shimmery peach on lids. School can be exhausting–from extracurriculars to studying to hanging out with friends–so camouflage any tired peepers by using light, shimmery shades all over the lid!
  • Darken the crease for a bolder look that’s still not overdone or too smoky. It can give your eye more definition!
  • Soft and subtle is easy to do once you have a set of go-to neutrals.
  • Try softer crease shades for your natural looks–you’ll still get the definition and depth you want, but it will be more sophisticated.
  • Try subtly darker neutrals for a more intense version of the natural eye. You’re still not going full-frontal with color, but you’re punching up the color a little bit.
  • Add color on the lid in shades that are noticeable but not neon, and you’ll be able to dabble in color without feeling like you’re wearing too much.
  • Smoky eyes are totally school-worthy if the mood hits! Try something like a champagne on the lid and really smoke out the crease and lash line.
  • Greens, grays, and blues are all perfect for fall! If you’re not afraid of color, rock them!
  • Go bold or go home! I know we have to have some readers who are going to wear the brightest shadow no matter where they’re going, so this is one of my favorite looks for something ultra bright!
  • Cute and fun and just right. It’s colorful, but it’s not neon – this always reminds me of ice cream, but it’s also very youthful.
