Runway Beauty: Masculine Femininity at Marissa Webb A/W 2015

February 13th, 2015

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

To balance out the Bianca Jagger inspired mix of femininity and masculinity in the Marissa Webb A/W 2015 collection, Maybelline artist Yadim teamed up with TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu to create a soft and fresh look on the models.

Yadim started out with Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation for the base. He applied Face Studio Master Conceal where needed and around the brows to soften them. He used a taupe shade from THE NUDES Palette to contour cheeks, Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Cream-Gel Shadow in Barely Branded to highlight the high plains of the face and added Eye Studio Color Molten in Rose Haze to give the cheeks a pink glow.

On the eyes, he created a tinted effect by applying Eye Studio Color Molten in Taupe Craze up to the browbone and below the lower lashline. Then he added Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Cream-Gel Shadow in Barely Branded on the inner corners of the eyes and the bronze shade in Eye Studio Color Molten in Endless Mocha on the lid before glossing it up with Baby Lips in Quenched. He further defined the eyes by adding Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner from the middle of the lid outward past the edge of the eye.

Finally, he added Color Sensational Lipcolor in Born With It and Color Sensational The Mattes in Nude Embrace on the lips for a soft, natural-looking effect.

Hair
Syfu created two different looks on the models. To create the braided bun for a girly look, she prepped wet hair with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creating Sea Foam, rough dried it and lightly finished the hairline and ends with a Mason Pearson brush. Using a tail comb, she created a center part from the forehead to the middle of the crown, then parted hair from ear to ear and back brush this section for added texture. Next, she pulled the top section of hair straight back and secured with an elastic. Then, she divided the remaining hair into two parts and back brush and tied sections into a knot at the top of the ponytail and started a three-strand braid through the lengths, fastening ends with an elastic. She wrapped the lengths of the braid into a bun at the nape of the neck and secured with large hairpins before setting with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Ultra Brushable Hairspray.

For the texturized down-do a la Bianca Jagger at a boys club, Syfu first prepped hair with TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creating Sea Foam and rough dried it. Then she back brushed hair for a light, airy texture and created a center part. To finish, she applied TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Perfecting Gelee and TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Sea Salt Spray throughout the hair for texture.

How To Get Kate Beckinsale’s Hair and Makeup at Total Recall Premiere

August 5th, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

With the help of makeup artist Molly R. Stern and hairstylist Mara Roszak, Kate Beckinsale once again wowed us at the premiere of “Total Recall” earlier this week. See how to recreate the look at home after the jump!

Makeup
“Her look was edgy and undone while still looking flawless for a big Hollywood night out. Wearing a reptile printed Armani Prive dress, Kate left looking like a serpent goddess,” explains Molly.

Molly started by prepping Kate’s skin with Jurlique Rose Water Balancing Mist, followed by By Terry Serum De Rose and Arcona Eye Dew. For a sheer yet luminous finish, Molly used Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation. Next, she applied Laura Mercier Creme Cheek Color in Oleander to the apples of Kate’s cheeks and dusted NYX illuminating Bronzer in Magnetic high on the cheek bones to reflect the light.

On the eyes, Molly started with NYX Cream Shadow in Gunmetal on the lid then brightened the shade by dusting the olive green shadow from YSL 5 Colour Harmony for Eyes in Garden of Eden all over up to crease. Next, she popped the inside of Kate’s lid with Beauty is Life Perfect Shine Eyes in Palmery. To define Kate’s lash line, Molly applied Hourglass Calligraphy Black Eyeliner as a base and topped that off with Glam Liner Aqua Luxe by NYX in #08 which is a golden olive color. Molly lined underneath the lashline with the same olive liner to get a smudgy finish that would last all night. She curled Kate’s lashes with Shu Uemura lash curler and then applied two coats of Laura Mericer Full Blow Volume Lash Building Mascara.

To finish off the look, Molly applied Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Canvas, blotted that off then added the NYX Glam Lip Gloss in #07 VIP.

Hair
Taking inspiration from Kate’s structured dress, Mara created a texturized look that is “edgy and undone, with an effortless feel.”

Step 1. Prep and Texturize
Achieving the undone quality of Kate’s hair relies on creating texture while preventing flyaways. Start by evenly applying John Frieda Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse through towel-dried hair to tame frizz, boost shine and build texture. For added volume, spray roots with a texturizing spray and rough dry.

Step 2. Secure the Style
Next, twist small sections of hair to create tousled texture. Once hair is completely dry, gently tease the crown for a bit of height. Next, pull hair back create a loose braid. Tuck the ends under and pin in place with bobby pins, crossing the pins to secure the look and make sure the braid stays in place. Allow pieces in the front to fall out and frame the face.

Step 3. Polish and Perfect
To finish the look, spray John Frieda Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Firm-Hold Hair Spray on your fingertips and pinch sections while rubbing your fingers together on the hair to add more texture and break up the look. Then in an even, all-around motion, mist a thin coat of hair spray to set the look.

mark. Fall 2011 i-mark metallics Eyeshadow Reviews, Swatches and Photos

August 18th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

The new mark. Fall 2011 i-mark metallics Eyeshadows I have been dying to see are finally here!

mark. Fall 2011 i-mark metallics Eyeshadow
Jazzy is a frosty violet that flashes pink. It is similar to MAC Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow, only a bit frostier. The texture is slightly chalky but pigmentation is decent and very buildable.

Truffle is a shimmery bronze gold just like my favorite, now-discontinued Jane Magical Mushroom eyeshadow. It has a really chunky texture (think MAC Kitschmas pigment chunky) that does require a bit of layering and blending to get smooth, even color.

Lava is a dark olive green with very fine gold shimmer. It has the most buttery texture out of the three and applies with great pigmentation.

Overall, these are some really gorgeous, wearable colors that I can’t wait to wear for fall. However, their textures do seem to vary a lot by color. I would recommend using a primer underneath and a dense eyeshadow brush like MAC #239 for application.

Overall Rating:

mark. i-mark metallics will be available September 2011 at meetmark.com or through a mark. rep for $5 each.
