Runway Beauty: Modern Tribalism at Dannijo Spring/Summer 2015

September 6th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

NYFW might have just kicked off yesterday but blue eyeshadow has already popped up at quite a number of shows. And at Dannijo Spring/Summer 2015, Maybelline makeup artist Yadim created modern tribalism with 2 different looks featuring shades of blue and bronze on the eyes. “Though the shades varied, each models’ makeup was similar so they looked a part of the same tribe – gorgeous and radiant.” explained Yadim.

Dannijo Spring/Summer 2015
Yadim applied Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation and blended Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral and Hot Tamale. He used Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Cream-Gel Shadow in Barely Branded to highlight from the cheekbones up to the temples and on the chin and Cupid’s bow. He then layered Maybelline Face Studio Master Hi-Light in Warm Nude on top. A taupe shade from Maybelline The NUDES Palette was used to contour the cheek.

The eye makeup was the defining factor of the look. Yadim swept Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo
Pure Pigments in Brash Blue across the eyelids to make the blue and silver jewelry pop. To create a warm, coppery effect emphasizing the brass jewelry, he applied Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Leathers 24HR Cream-Gel Shadow in Creamy Beige, Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream-Gel Shadow in Bad to the Bronze and Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Cocoa layered on
top. He brushed up the brows with Maybelline Great Last Mascara in Clear.

To create a soft, muted lip, Yadim applied Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm i n Quenched before lightly
dabbing Maybelline FIT me! Concealer atop the lips.

Finally, one coat of Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in In the Nude gave nails a simple, classic finish.

Get Katy Perry’s Makeup Look at 2014 VMAs!

August 28th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, singer Katy Perry looked “quintessential Katy” in her signature bright red lips, black liquid liner and big lashes. Get the breakdown of the look straight from her makeup artist Jake Bailey!

Katy Perry Makeup look at 2014 Video Music Awards
“I first prepped her skin and then matched her skin tone to CoverGirl Ready, Set Gorgeous Foundation in Warm Beige and began by buffing a thin layer all over her face and neck using a flat tipped, soft bristled kabuki style brush for a seamless airbrushed effect. I highlighted her under eye area and cheekbones with CoverGirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Concealer in Light/mMdium.

I began her eye makeup by blending a warm brown shadow, CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Scorching Cocoa into the crease of her eyelids and a pearlescent white shadow CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Blazing White onto her eyelid and browbone for highlights. I also dusted some of that same pearlescent shadow onto the ridge of her cheekbones for an extra glow. I then created a sharp jet black cat eye using CoverGirl Bombshell Intensity Liner. I finished the eye look with several coats of CoverGirl Bombshell Volume Mascara.

I then sculpted her cheekbones using the darker shade from the CoverGirl Clean Glow Blush compact and added warmth to the apples of her cheeks with the paler peachier shades in the compact.

I completed the look by lining her lips with CoverGirl LipPerfection Lip Liner in Hot and the matching CoverGirl LipPerfection Lip Color shade in Hot 305. I topped the lipstick with a coat of CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in Crystal Flame for a metallic sheen. Just before she left I dusted her with a touch of CoverGirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Powder in light/medium to keep her looking fresh for the red carpet.”

MAC Autumn/Winter 2013 Runway Trend Report

August 9th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Every season, M·A·C Cosmetics brings us its very own trend recap of the hottest runway looks. And for A/W 2013, it is all about makeup that tells a story… less straightforward, more moody, more mysterious and layered with feeling. This is makeup with a life, resonant with elements of the past, the present and the future.

Trend #1: Reb-elle
A tougher feel to makeup is omnipresent for A/W13 and nowhere more evident than with this season’s anarchistic black eye. Liner and shadow have dropped any sense of sexy smokiness and picked up a rebellious streak that is unconventional, anti-glamour and attitude-driven.

Products To Create The Look
* Smolder Eye Kohl – let it bleed
* Mixing Medium : Shine
* Reflects Transparent Pink and Reflects Transparent Teal Glitter
* Blacktrack Fluidline – for precise and decisive black lines
* Nocturnelle Nail Lacquer – polished punk nails
* Typographic Eye Shadow – shapes, accentuates

Trend #2: Spiritual-Eye
Tired, spooky, and haunted. An ethereally wistful mood characterized by brooding shadowed eyes and constituted by clouds of greyed tones. These eyes are emotively shaded, not sensually smoked, and even more moving for their emergence on porcelain skin.

Cold Colour: Steel, cement, asphalt, slate, aluminum, lead

Products To Create The Look
* Paint Pot in Stormy Pink – sheer it down with Fast Response Eye Cream to create the perfect eye stain
* Paint Pot in Groundwork – swooped around upper and lower lids with a 188 Small Duo Fibre Face Brush face Brush for a real shadow
* Lip Mix in Medium Nude – for a photographic stain around the eye
* Eye Kohl in Prunella – beautifully mimics a natural bruised shadow

Trend #3: Au-Currant
The unanimous proposal for a colored lip this season? Red. Set against a pallid complexion these looks capture a new take on crimson that is underpinned with an intimation of mystery, melancholy and the macabre. Gothicism in its truest, most poetic sense.

Products To Create The Look
* Fall 13 Lip Palette in A Rich New Mood and A Red Statement – blended and buffed on; applicable to lips and cheeks
* Lipmix in Crimson – for the matte, intensely pigmented mouth
* Lip Pencil in Nightmoth – focus it on the inner edges of the mouth
* Cremesheen Lipstick in Hang Up – just-bitten lips

Trend #4: Perspex-tive
It is a new way of revisiting the monochrome effect. Focusing on the way skin picks up light; chalky matte, balmily waxen or with a dewy glow – and often within the realm of a singular face. The fundamental idea is an absence of pigment in the complexion, sculpting with actual light, rather than artificial shade. The use of texture and color to achieve dimension is elevated in a unique, mesmerizing way.

Products To Create The Look
* M·A·C Pro Mixing Medium: Shine – subtle emollient glow
* Strobe Cream – the classic incandescent sheen
* Lip Conditioner SPF 15 – low-level shine
* Cream Colour Base in Luna, Shell and Pearl – add seamless highlights
* Gloss Texture – glassy sheen

Get Kristen Stewart’s Makeup Look at 2013 Met Gala!

May 7th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Matching your eyeshadow to your outfit can be a do when done correctly. Case in point? The gorgeous burgundy eye makeup Kristen Stewart wore at the 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Annual Costume Institute Gala. “I wanted to create a dark punk shape to the eye, but give it some edgy elegance by working in reds, burgundies and blacks. The look came together beautifully with the deep burgundy jumpsuit Kristen wore.” said makeup artist Beau Nelson.

Kristen Stewart's burgundy smoky eye Makeup Look at 2013 Met Gala
“To get her look, I started by massaging Chanel Sublimage La Crème Texture Fine into the face and gently patting Sublimage La Creme Yeux under the eyes for hydration. I applied Chanel Perfection Lumiere Long-Wear Flawless Fluid Makeup SPF 15 in 22 Beige Rose to the center of the face working outwards in small circular motions, buffing the product into the skin. Then used a concealer where needed to cover redness and brighten the under eye area. I contoured the face with Chanel Powder Blush in Plum Attraction under the cheekbones and used Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Baume on the tops of cheekbones for radiant dewy shine.

“On her eyes I used Chanel Precision Lip Definer in Framboise as a creme shadow to define the shape and create a strong red base to apply the shadow to. I then used a mix of Chanel Powder Blush in Pink Explosion, the burgundy shadows from Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Eclosion and the grey shadow from Chanel Eyeshadow Duo in Misty-Soft to smoke up the eye, then lined the inner rim with a black pencil. On the brows, I used Chanel Sculpting Eyebrow Pencil in Brun Naturel. I curled the lashes and applied Chanel Inimitable Mascara in Noir to both top and bottom.

“On the lips I used Chanel Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Colour Lipshine in Ingénue (available June 2013) and Chanel Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss in Attirance.”
