NYFW Exclusive Coverage: Beautiful Island Girl at Christian Siriano S/S 2014

September 8th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Inspired by Isla Mujeres on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the Christian Siriano S/S 2014 Collection was all about colors and vivid prints. As a result, the beauty look centered around glowy skin, a bright lip with beachy hair and colorblocked nails.

Makeup artist Polly Osmond working for Hourglass Cosmetics went for an “island girl” look with a focus on “a diffusion of light, texture and color”. She kept the skin fresh by first prepping with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, followed by Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer and Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer. The cheeks were then lightly contoured with the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (coming October for Holiday 2013) and finished with a dab of Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum on the apples for a glowy look.

On the eyes, Polly applied the Incandescent shade from Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette all over the lid. She added a shimmery white eyeshadow, Shell from Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Shadow Palette, to the inner corner and along the top and bottom of the lashlines to open up the eyes. Next, she coated lashes with Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara while brushed the brows with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum onto brows for a bit of shine.

Finally, the lips were prepped with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil, before coated with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Muse, a gorgeous orange coral liquid lipstick that dries down to a matte finish. The outline of the lips were then slightly blended with a lip brush for a diffused look.

Nails
Red Carpet Manicure celebrity manicurist Lisa Logan was the mastermind behind the super cool colorblocked nails for the show. “Nails shouldn’t have to compete, they should only complement,” explained Lisa. Using Red Carpet Manicure, the first at-home LED gel system, she created press-on tips with a nude base and a block of yellow down the middle. “We used Fake Bake, a natural color, and The Perfect Pair, a yellow, but added White Hot underneath the yellow to make it pop.”

Hair
To complete the beachy vibe of the look, lead stylist Anthony Cole working for Sebastian Professional gave models a “texturized, dreaded ponytail, some higher some lower”. He used three key products – Volupt Spray, Mousse Forte and Microweb Fiber – before using a straightening iron to further create waves for an erratic texture. Finally, he added a chain brand using 1/4″ section of the hair from the bottom of the ponytail and wrapped it around the ponytail for a soft, organic feel.

New Year; Getting Your Skin in Shape for the New Year

January 7th, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Welcome to Fab Over Forty New Year; Getting Your Skin in Shape for the New Year

With the new year we vow to get our bodies in shape, have a healthier diet, but what about our skin?  Let’s face it, if you’ve been partying and indulging over the last several months with the holiday season, your skin needs some major TLC, and it doesn’t have to take months to see results. Here are some of my favorite products and what they can do for your skin.

Dior’s latest addition to their Capture Totale skincare line is the One Essential Ultra-Detox Treatment Mask.  It doesn’t make sense to pile on all those skincare products if they just sit on the top of your face not working like they are designed to.  According to Dior, this treatment mask eliminates excess skin toxins which accumulate in the skin and suffocate cells, preventing our other age-defying products from working to their full capacity and getting to the heart of the skin’s cells.  Use this once or twice a week after cleansing and before applying your other skin care and see the results quickly.  I received this as a Christmas gift and have used it a couple of times now and love the results.  Your serum and moisturizers will love you for it.

You know the saying “an ounce of protection is worth a pound of cure” – well that holds true for Vitamin C. If you speak with any dermatologist they will always say to use a Vitamin C on your skin like this SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic.  Vitamin C in a stabilized formula gives maximum anti-aging benefits by protecting from free radical damage to the skin, helps build collagen and gives skin a better defense against other environmental factors.  Put this on in the morning after cleansing and wait about two minutes before resuming with other skin care products.  Vitamin C is a must in my skincare regimen.

Awaken tired, puffy, dark eyes with Laura Mercier Flawless Skin Repair Eye Serum.  Not only does this lightweight serum help with fine lines and firmness, the reflective particles in the serum give your eye area an awakened glow.  I recently tried a sample from the beauty counter and was instantly impressed with this serum.  My eye area feels moisturized and the glow diminishes the tired, dark circles I have from lack of sleep.  I will definitely be making this a permanent addition to my skincare routine.

If you’ve been over-indulging, getting less sleep, or are in colder temperatures the skin needs more moisture.  When my skin feels dry and like it needs a big drink of water I turn to Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv Replenishing Comfort Cream. This thick, creamy, non-greasy moisturizer brings life back into my dehydrated skin.  ”Comfort” is the perfect name for it, because it’s like wrapping your skin in a blanket of moisture that the skin really needs this time of year.  It has an Omega 3 Phyto complex to give radiance back to the skin.

No matter how tired you or your skin may be, always finish with a sunscreen.  I prefer Aveeno Natural Protection Sunblock Lotion with SPF 30.  This is specially formulated for sensitive skin and protects from both UVA and UVB damaging rays.  It’s oil free and non-whitening, so it doesn’t feel heavy and it doesn’t give your skin that typical SPF white pasty look.  You can put many products on your skin, but nothing protects it as much as sunscreen.

Don’t neglect the rest of your body.  Exfoliating and moisturizing the body is just as important as taking care of the face.  I’ve been using and loving the new Salma Hayek Nuance skincare line at CVS.  I’m just wondering when I’m going to start looking like Salma.  I think my husband is too.  🙂  But in all seriousness, these two products are divine.  The Walnut Body Scrub is finely milled walnut shells to exfoliate the skin and added ingredients like acai, annatto seed and rice bran oil give the skin softness.  Lotion up with the Rosehip Moisturizing Body Lotion, which has rosehip oil for instant relief on dry skin and it has aloe vera and Irish moss extract to soften.

Lastly, don’t forget what a good night sleep can do for your body.  Continual lack of sleep is aging and stressing on the body. Our system rejuvenates and replenishes while we sleep so a good 8 hours not only makes you look better, it is better for your overall health.
