Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish Lasting Velvet Foundation Review, Photos and Swatches

August 26th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

This summer, Kanebo Sensai has launched a mattifying version of Lauren Conrad’s favorite Fluid Finish Foundation!

Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish Lasting Velvet Foundation
Like the original Fluid Finish, the new Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish Lasting Velvet Foundation comes in a sleek 30ml glass bottle with an easy-to-use pump. It also contains the same ingredients – Phyto-Squalene, Rice Extract, 55% Fuji-Sensui Water, Koishimaru Silk and SPF 15 – to deeply moisturize skin while protecting it from the sun. What’s different is the new “Instant Fitting Oil” that evaporates off the skin’s surface in just 15 minutes so skin is left silky-smooth, moisturized yet matte.

Color selection-wise, there are 8 shades that will cover light to tan skin tones. I have FF 203 Natural Beige and FF 204 Almond Beige, two medium yellow-based shades that I can get away with for my NC30 skin.

The texture of the foundation is one of the creamiest I have ever seen, just like the Fluid Finish. It blends wonderfully with just fingers or a brush and never seeps into fine lines, highlights flakes or creates shine.

In addition, the coverage is divine! The foundation is so pigmented that one small pump (roughly a pea-sized amount) can erase any signs of flaws under my eyes, around the nose and the lips. Hooray for not having to even use a concealer!

The end result is velvety, not overly matte, natural-looking and light-weight – simply made for “non-matte” girls like me! Not to mention, the foundation wears well all day even without a setting powder and touch ups! More love for Kanebo Sensai ♥

Overall Rating:

Kanebo Sensai Fluid Finish Lasting Velvet Foundation is available at Neiman Marcus and for $50.

nails inc. Polish and Special Effects 3D Crackle Top Coat Swatches and Photos

August 16th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

More swatches and pictures of London’s coolest nail brand nails inc.! This time we have two Nail Polishes and a Special Effects 3D Crackle Top Coat.

nails inc. Jermyn Street Islington Chelsea Square polishes
Jermyn Street is a creamy muted pinkish taupe/brown. It goes on very opaque and applies like a dream. If you like cream polishes, definitely check this one out!

Islington Pink Crackle is a flamingo pink crackle top coat. I was hoping for a cooler pink but it showed up more coral and is pretty nonetheless.

Chelsea Square is a clear polish decked with tons of rose glitter. It looks almost identical to my favorite China Glaze 80381 Glitter Nail Polish, only with small glitter particles. Similar to the nails inc. Special Effects 3D Glitter Nail Polishes I loved, you can get full coverage with just two coats.

nails inc. is available at select Sephora locations and Sephora.com for $9.50.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Swatches Part 2

August 4th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

After my first batch of OCC Lip Tar Swatches, I decided to let the artist in me come out and play. Following the basics of color theory, I used your typical primary colors – NSFW (primary red), Yellow Iron Oxide (mustard yellow) and RX (primary cyan blue) – along with Feathered (white), to create my very own shades. To start off, here are swatches of just RX and Yellow Iron Oxide as requested by you guys:

Since OCC Lip Tars are uber opaque as I mentioned in my review, I had to use three times as much of the white to lighten the color to make it more wearable. RX also seemed to stain my lips, skin and even teeth (yikes!) so using a brush for application and an oil-based remover is highly recommended.

What’s your favorite shade?

OCC Lip Tar is available at http://www.occmakeup.com/ for $13.

Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Kit Review, Photos and Swatches

August 4th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Here is a full review of my beloved Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Kit I used for the How To Contour Your Nose Makeup Tutorial.

Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Palette
Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Palette
The 2-piece kit comes with a Contour Palette in Smashbox’s signature matte packaging, along with a red angled contour brush and a cheat sheet with detailed instructions on where/how to apply the product.

Inside the Contour Palette, you will find a huge mirror and a sticker with instructions on how to apply the product on one side, and 3 colors – a cool-toned brown for Contour, a warm tan for Bronze and an ivory for Highlight – on the other.

The powders are smooth, blendable and leave behind a semi-matte yet natural-looking finish that wears well without fading. They also give decent pigmentation and show up nicely on my NC30 skin. However, I do wish the Highlight color could be a teeny bit lighter and more shimmery.

Swatches of Smashbox Contour, Bronze and Highlight powders

The biggest surprise for me was the brush. Though flimsy looking, its bristles are soft and actually deposit color while blending everything nicely. In addition, the angle fits perfectly along my cheekbones, making contouring really easy.

Lo and behold the magic of the Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Kit!

Before and after using Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Kit

Overall, Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Kit is a great and easy-to-use tool to highlight and contour features. Highly recommended for those with light to medium skintones.

Overall Rating:

Smashbox Step-by-step Contour Kit is available at Beauty.com, Nordstrom and Ulta for $45.
