Runway Beauty: 3D Nails and White Eyeliner at The Blonds A/W 2015

February 19th, 2015

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At The Blonds A/W 2015, over-the-top 3D nails were paired with a relatively stripped down makeup look of white eyeliner and nude, contoured faces.

Makeup: Kabuki for M·A·C Cosmetics
Nails: CND

To create “a tuxedo effect”, Kabuki first created a black cat eye with M·A·C PRO Creme Liner then added M·A·C PRO Pure White Acrylic Paint above it. He left the lashes bare with no mascara or faux lashes so the line stayed clean and sharp. The rest of the face was kept toned down with Matchmaster SPF 15 Foundation set with Prep + Prime Transparent Finishing Powder, M·A·C PRO Bone Beige Sculpting Powder under the cheekbones softened with M·A·C PRO Accentuate Shaping Powder, and an ultra nude lip, courtesy of Boldly Bare Lip Pencil, Siss, Fleshpot and Tanarama Lipsticks.

To create the unique 3D nails on the models, the CND Design Lab Team handcrafted the nails and their dramatic embellishments with CND® Liquid & Powder and BRISA® Gel. Then, layers of high-shine color were applied using CND® SHELLAC® brand 14+ day nail color and VINYLUX® Weekly Polish, using innovative techniques to create matte suede texture. Accented with gold chrome accessories, textural elements and layering created serious dimension, while couture camouflage in industrial tones were embellished with hand-crafted molten paillettes. The bold 3D designs, which took a total of over 900 combined hours to create, were pierced, draped, laced, torn and burnt, perfectly accessorizing The Blonds’ theatrical collection.

Runway Beauty: Indian Inspired Eyes and Nails at Libertine A/W 2015

February 19th, 2015

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

With vague references to mythology and Indian culture, the Libertine A/W 2015 collection centered around a beauty look that consisted of a dramatic cat eye and heavily adorned nails.

Makeup: Chantel Miller for M·A·C Cosmetics
Nails: CND

To convey the idea of “a Libertine girl set in celebratory India”, Miller created a traditional black eye with a splash of neon pigments. She blended M·A·C Midnight Well Eyeshadow in Black Onyx on the crease before buffing M·A·C Carbon Eyeshadow along the edges to elongate the eyes. She left the center of the lid and brow bone bare but added Midnight Well Eyeshadow in Black Onyx in the inner brow and lower lashline. She lined the upper lashline with M·A·C Pointblack Liquidlast Liner and pressed M·A·C Jet Couture Pressed Pigment onto the center of the lid and under the brow bone. She finished the look by adding a pop of color through the middle part of the hair with M·A·C Process Magenta Pigment mixed with hairspray.

The eye-catching, golden nails created by the CND Design Lab Team were constructed with CND® Liquid & Powder, painted with VINYLUX® Weekly Polish and embellished with CND® Additives and a variety of unconventional materials and architectural accessories. Abstract shark teeth nails, inspired by baguettes on the sleeves of the Libertine garments, featured blinding gold studs in varying textures with one giant shark tooth extending halfway up the finger. Other models donned chandelier chains reminiscent of dripping melted gold, which were webbed together between the fingers for an over-the-top molten metal effect. The lavish 3D looks were tricked out with 2,500 hand-placed paillettes, 600 feet of gold chain and 110 individually sculpted shark teeth.

Runway Beauty: Dewy Skin With Soft Smoky Eyes at Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2015

September 7th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Jason Wu Spring/Summer 2015, the look was creamy, dewy skin with a soft smoky eye paired with a side-part low ponytail and white nails.

Makeup: Diane Kendal for Lancome
Nails: Deborah Lippmann for Lancome
Hair: Odile Gilbert for Kerastase

To create the hydrated, glowing and dewy look, Kendal first prepped skin with Absolue L’Extrait Serum Ultimate Rejuvenating Concentrated – Elixir and Absolue L’Extrait Ultimate Radiance Mist. Next, she applied Nude Miracle Liquid to Powder Makeup to even skin out. Then, she applied La Base Hydra Glow on the cheekbones and Blush Subtil Palette All-In-One Contour Blush & Highlighter in Nectar Lace down the nose and on top of the cheekbones.

The eyes were softly-shaded with natural, curled lashes. Instead of mascara, Kendal curled lashes and blended Aquatique Waterproof Eyecolour Base in Sienne and Le Crayon Khôl in Black Coffee on the eyes for a soft smoky effect.

Kendal finished the look with lips that were matte and bare with L’Absolu Rouge in La Base.

Nails were white with Vernis in Love in Beige Romance.

On dry hair, Gilbert applied Mousse Bouffant and Ciment Thermique. Then using a paddle brush, she blow-dried hair in a backwards motion for volume. Next, she used a tail comb and created a side part. Leaving two-inch strips of hair on either side of the face, she pulled back the remaining hair and secured temporarily with a clip. Pulling hair from the clip, section by section, she sprayed with Laque Dentelle and twisted with fingers before curling around a 2″ barrel curling iron for added texture. Then, she collected the two front strips and pulled with the remaining length at the back of the head into a pony, securing at the nape of the neck with an elastic. Finally, she combed fingers through the lengths of hair to create a soft, natural look and applied Baume Double Je to prevent flyaways and secure hair in place.

Makeup: Maki Ryoke for M·A·C Cosmetics
Nails: Julie Kandalec for essie

* Studio Finish Concealer and Prep + Prime Highlighters – alternately blended and used together for minimal concealing to create super real, natural moisturized looking skin.
* Luna, Hush and Pearl Cream Color Base – equally mixed together and blended over the upper cheekbone, browbone, temple and inner eye to highlight.
* Mocha Latte Lipstick, Coquettish from Fall 14 Trend Forecast/Lip Palette (available Spring 2014) and M·A·C PRO Shine Mixing Medium – mixed to create a glossy stain and then blended with Au Nature Cream Color Base (available Fall 2014) under cheekbones to contour.

* Mocha Latte Lipstick, Coquettish from Fall 14 Trend Forecast/Lip Palette (available Spring 2014) and M·A·C PRO Shine Mixing Medium – mixed one to one with 2 parts shine, and applied as a glossy stain over the eyelid and faintly through the lower lid under eyes.
* Veluxe Brow Liner – shaded through brows to straighten in shape and followed with Clear Brow Set to groom and refine
* Nude Technakohl Liner (available Fall 2014) – applied through the lower waterline to open and brighten eyes.

* Lip Conditioner Tube – applied over lips to moisturize and perfect.
* Studio Finish Concealer -softly blended over lips to lightly conceal.
* Desert Rose Powder Blush – minimally applied with Blending Brush 217 to create a healthy pinky-beige to lips.

To convey an imaginary tale of power and strength as seen in the collection, Julie opted for deep berry-colored nails with a matte finish. She started by applying ridge filling base coat to clean, filed nails. Once the base coat dries, two coats of berry naughty were applied onto nails and topped with one coat of matte about you.

Blue Eyeliner and Marble Nails at Creatures Of The Wind A/W ’14

February 7th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Creatures of the Wind A/W 2014, the look revolved around a pop of blue liner on the lower lashline and nude marble nails.

“The collection this season is about transcendence- moving from the earthly realm into the light. We wanted the makeup to reflect a sense of purity and illumination, so we focused on gleaming, luminous skin and a metallic blue liner on the inside of the eye to light the eyes from within,” says James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry.

Lead manicurist and butter LONDON Global Color Ambassador, Katie Jane Hughes, drew inspiration from the space-like/psychedelic vibe of the fabrics and patterns within the collection to create the nail look.

She used a technique called water marbling to create the nail design, with the agate stones that inspired the A/W ’14 collection as her guide. Each nail (675 in total) was made by hand last night by Katie and her team—with no two nails alike. To achieve the look, Katie poured drops of several Nail Lacquer shades (Yummy Mummy, Diamond Geezer, Posh Bird, Pearly Queen, Billy No Mates) one after another into a bowl of water, creating rings of color, much like agate. Once the color had been placed, Katie took an orange wood stick to swirl the colors together, creating a range of patterns. She then dipped the press on nail into the water, letting it sit under the water’s edge just below the pattern she wanted to lift onto the nail. Once removed, the pattern below the surface was transferred to the nail. To add playful variation to the nail look, two different base colors were used, Nail Lacquer in Trallop was used on half of the models nails and Nail Lacquer in Teddy Girl was used on the rest.
