Runway Beauty: Glam Rock at Creatures of the Wind S/S 2016

September 17th, 2015

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Creatures of the Wind Spring/Summer 2016, models rocked a Siouxsie Sioux inspired glam rock look. “She always had a very strong eye look – it had the same spirit, but was applied differently each time. The look is very eclectic with a lot of layering, which plays off the layering in the collection. It’s punk, tough looking. I loved the richness of the gold against the toughness of the black. It’s an updated, modernized take on eyeliner,” explained de Mey.

Makeup: Aaron de Mey for NARS Cosmetics
Nails: Katie Jane Hughes for butter LONDON

The skin was first prepped with NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream then perfected with Stick Concealer and set with Soft Velvet Loose Powder.

On the eyes, de Mey created a dramatic wing with a variety of products (Black Valley Eye Paint, Via Veneto Larger Than Life® Eyeliner, Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil and Pandora Duo Eyeshadow). The gorgeous gold was the result of Iskandar Eye Paint topped with glitter. Brows were kept groomed with Oural Brow Gel and Brow Perfector.

To finish, de Mey gave models two different lip looks – a red using Mysterious Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Nihiwatu Velvet Lip Liner; and a nude with just concealer and NARSskin Restorative Night Treatment.

On the nails, Hughes went for a simple yet bold look that was inspired by the hippie meets punk vibe of the collection. Four high-shine nail colors – white (Cotton Buds), blue (Skive), black (Union Jack Black) and yellow (Cotton Buds topped with Cheeky Chops)- were assigned to models based upon their look, and finished Patent-Gel Topcoat for a thick, high-shine finish.

Get The 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Hair & Makeup

December 7th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

The 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show brought us a bombshell look with its very own identity. Unlike previous years, the models rocked relatively understated eye makeup paired with a healthy flush and needless to say, the signature VS bed-head waves.

Instead of the classic all-over bronzed look the Angels are known for, lead makeup artist Dick Page created a more natural flush on the models. He blended a red theatrical paint by Kryolan onto models’ cheekbones and buffed cream bronzer on top before adding foundation where needed. On the eyes, he used Shiseido Shimmery Cream Eye Color in Sable, Caviar and Shoyu with a few coats of mascara (yes no falsies!) and a touch of shimmer on the inner corners. The lips were topped with Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Color Shine Glosses.

To create those to-die-for luscious waves, lead hairstylist Akki added extensions and dollops of Victoria’s Secret Mega-Lift Mousse before wrapping small sections of hair around GHD Curve Classic Curl Iron. The curls were then set with large velcro rollers. Once they have cooled, Akki loosened them with his fingers and finished with Victoria’s Secret High Shine Serum on the ends.

Runway Makeup: Gilded Eyes at Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012

March 6th, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

To complement the opulence of Sicilian Baroque at Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2012, Pat McGrath used a combination of tonal nudes alongside with rich gold accents from the designers’ beauty line, Dolce & Gabbana The Makeup, on the models.

“It was wonderful to create this make up look for this collection; there is a real sense of divine drama to the clothes and so I wanted to bring that to life with the make up look. The models look refined and flawless, and their gilt edged lids really refer to the Designers’ lavish inspiration” says Pat.

To achieve a flawless look, Pat applied The Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation using The Foundation Brush. She carefully blended the foundation adding extra coverage on the nose and forehead. The Perfect Finish Concealer was then used to achieve a flawless, ethereal look illuminated with light. Finally, Pat used The Luminous Cheek Colour in Delight, sweeping colour lightly across models’ cheekbones for a romantic flush.

On the eyes, The Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Gold and Desert were applied in layers to create a luxurious, gilt rich tone. The Crayon Intense Eyeliner in Nude was then worked along the lash line above and below the eyes to brighten the look and add further definition. Finally, several coats of The Secret Eyes Mascara in Coffee were applied, achieving long, volumized lashes for a flirtatious look.

Turning her attention to the lips, Pat applied The Classic Cream Lipstick in Petal and Mandorla, mixing the colors together for a soft, sensual lip with a subtle sheen. The color was applied with greater intensity at the cupid’s bow for a pearlescent finish.

Pat chose The Intense Nail lacquer in Nude for a final subtle accent. The luxuriant finish of the nail color perfectly completed the sensuous makeup look.

Makeup, Hair, & Nails @ Erickson Beamon S/S 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Makeup, Hair, & Nails @ Erickson Beamon S/S 2012

WOW! The styling at Erickson Beamon was ridiculous–and I mean that in the best way! After seeing a lot of nude/neutral colors and looks at other shows, it’s such a breath of fresh air! I have a ton of photos to go through, so I’ll be updating this post in the next couple of hours with more (and I’m still working on getting a breakdown of what was used for the makeup).

Nonie from Butter London for created pops of color on the nails using a neon orange, chartreuse, magenta (with a little touch of shimmer), and teal. The magenta and teal shades are definitely part of the spring/summer collection but she hasn’t decided whether the other two will come out (I totally voted for chartreuse!). They put a different color on each fingernail and toenail. The backstage area was so cramped, there were Butter London team members sitting on the floor and crunched in some really awkward-looking positions!

PHYTO for was styling the hair, which was sleek and elegant twist around the crown of the head. It was designed to be understated, because the makeup and nails were already so bold and vibrant.

MAC was responsible for the makeup. Chantal Miller, MAC Senior Artist, was the key artist for the makeup look, and she used a lot of PRO products, like Paintsticks, Glitters, and Pigments. The models also wore hand-cut paper lashes, which the models said were odd at first but after a few minutes, they were used to them. Lots and lots of glitter along the brow bone and underneath the eye, as well as a bold lip with more glitter patted on top. It was a superstar team back there; I also spotted Senior Artists Fatima, Romero, and Neil (UK) at work. (Fatima even told me she reads Temptalia, which was totally a “No way!” moment for me.)
