Runway Beauty: Modern Tribalism at Dannijo Spring/Summer 2015

September 6th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

NYFW might have just kicked off yesterday but blue eyeshadow has already popped up at quite a number of shows. And at Dannijo Spring/Summer 2015, Maybelline makeup artist Yadim created modern tribalism with 2 different looks featuring shades of blue and bronze on the eyes. “Though the shades varied, each models’ makeup was similar so they looked a part of the same tribe – gorgeous and radiant.” explained Yadim.

Dannijo Spring/Summer 2015
Yadim applied Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation and blended Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral and Hot Tamale. He used Maybelline Color Tattoo 24HR Cream-Gel Shadow in Barely Branded to highlight from the cheekbones up to the temples and on the chin and Cupid’s bow. He then layered Maybelline Face Studio Master Hi-Light in Warm Nude on top. A taupe shade from Maybelline The NUDES Palette was used to contour the cheek.

The eye makeup was the defining factor of the look. Yadim swept Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo
Pure Pigments in Brash Blue across the eyelids to make the blue and silver jewelry pop. To create a warm, coppery effect emphasizing the brass jewelry, he applied Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Leathers 24HR Cream-Gel Shadow in Creamy Beige, Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream-Gel Shadow in Bad to the Bronze and Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in Cocoa layered on
top. He brushed up the brows with Maybelline Great Last Mascara in Clear.

To create a soft, muted lip, Yadim applied Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm i n Quenched before lightly
dabbing Maybelline FIT me! Concealer atop the lips.

Finally, one coat of Maybelline Color Show Nail Lacquer in In the Nude gave nails a simple, classic finish.

Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Review

June 12th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

The Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser that everyone in Asia raved about has finally landed in the US!
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer Review
Packaged in a cute-looking turquoise and pink tube, the Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer utilizes an insta-blur technology with silicone-based ingredients like Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer and Silica Silylate to visibly smooth pores away. It can be used alone or under foundation.

The formula was a clear, fragrance-free gel that felt super velvety on the skin. With just the teeniest tiniest dot, it filled in the pores on my cheeks and made them look much less visible. It also smoothed out any dry patches I had and I loved how foundation and concealer seemed to just glide right on without pilling.

A lot of people have compared this to Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer, even going as far as to saying that it is an exact dupe. While I do see the resemblances in terms of the texture and there are a couple identical ingredients, the Smashbox definitely made my makeup last longer than the Maybelline.

I have also read that certain people broke out from using the product, despite it being non-comedogenic. I always remove my makeup with a cleansing oil followed by a product that exfoliates and never had a problem with it clogging my pores.

Over all, Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer worked great in filling and minimizing the appearance of pores just as promised. Definitely a must-try for those who love silicone-based primers, especially at this price!

Get Anna Kendrick’s Hair & Makeup Look at 2014 Grammy Awards

January 27th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Tonight at 2014 Grammay Awards, actress Anna Kendrick looked gorgeous in a smoky eye, side-swept ‘do and silver Azzaro dress. Get her exact look after the jump!

Anna Kendrick Hair & Makeup Look at 2014 Grammy Awards
Makeup
Makeup artist Vanessa Scali for Maybelline New York created a makeup look featuring smoky, sultry eyes and effortless skin. To achieve this look, she used cream shadows, which look very modern on the skin and have a slight transparency that adds shape and drama. Additionally, a sheer, vibrant color on the cheeks and a rose/nude lip complimented Kendrick’s eyes, without competing with them. “Anna’s smoky eyes gave her look a little edge. Keeping the rest of her face effortless made this a very pretty and wearable look.”

To create Kendrick’s effortless skin, Scali began by applying Garnier Ultra-Lift Transformer Anti-Age Skin Corrector (Release Date: February 2014) mixed with Maybelline New York Fit Me Foundation to provide hydration and give the skin a soft, luminous glow. Scali swiped this combination along the bridge of Kendrick’s nose, cheeks, chin and forehead, using her fingers to blend the color to the outer edges of her face. Scali used Maybelline New York Fit Me Concealer under Kendrick’s eyes and on the inner hollow of the nose, just beside the inner corner of her eyes. To set, Scali applied Maybelline New York Dream Wonder Powder on Kendrick, focusing specifically on her T-Zone.

On Kendrick’s cheeks, Scali applied Maybelline New York Face Studio Master Glaze in Pink Fever. Smooth and sheer, this vibrant wash of color makes the skin look fresh and lit from within.

As for the eyes, Scali applied Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal in Barely Branded from the lash line to the brow bone, and under the lower lashes in the inside corners of the eyes, brightening them in a soft and sexy way. She then applied Maybelline New York Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal in Bad to the Bronze; starting in the middle of the lid, extending out and beyond the natural eye, and then wrapping under the bottom lashes. For extra depth and definition, Scali layered Maybelline New York Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Liner in Blackest Black to the base of the lashes. She then curled Kendrick’s lashes and liberally applied two coats of Maybelline New York Falsies Big Eyes Mascara in Very Black to the top lashes, and one coat to the bottom.

To keep Kendrick’s eyes the center focus, Scali applied a light coat of Maybelline New York Color Elixir Lip Color in Rose Redefined for the finishing touch.

Hair
“Anna wore a silver Azzaro dress that was sleek and structured. Therefore, I wanted to compliment the dress with a soft, Veronica Lake-inspired hairdo,” said celebrity hairstylist Craig Gangi for Garnier. “But because it was the Grammys, we gave it a slight edge, tightly pulling up the right side for a modern, sleek look.”

Since Kendrick’s hair is naturally very curly and voluminous, Gangi started by applying Garnier Fructis Style Curl Calm Down Anti-Frizz Cream to Anna’s wet hair to tame the volume and eliminate frizz. He then blow-dried her hair very smooth.

Next, Cangi lightly sprayed Kendrick’s hair with Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Blow Dry Perfector Straightening Balm to protect from heat and add shine. Then, he thermal set her hair and after letting cool down, brushed it out and tightly pulled it back to one side.

Gangi then applied the tiniest drop of Garnier Fructis Style Sleek & Shine Sleek Finish 5-in-1 Serum Spray into his hands and smoothed over her hair for incredible shine. To complete the look, Garnier Fructis Style Extreme Control Anti-Humidity Hairspray was used to set the look and provide firm hold and repel moisture for a look that will last all-night.

Nails
“We created a modern take on the French manicure using essie’s chinchilly – the perfect grey – tipped with essie’s ignite the night from the encrusted collection for a hint of sparkle and dimension,” said celebrity manicurist, Lisa Postma. “The final look was elegant, but fun; the perfect look for the Grammy Awards!”

Realistic Runway Beauty from NYFW Spring 2012

September 22nd, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Fashion Week just ended in NYC showcasing Spring 2012 looks.   My email has been bombarded with images;  some wild, some that make you think “huh?” and then there are some very wearable looks.   This season there were more subdued makeup looks than I’ve seen in the past few years – a reflection of the economy perhaps?  Designers not willing to take as many risks?  Subdued looks and styles tend to be the norm when the economy is going through a difficult time.   Whatever the case, I saw several looks that I liked and found to be very wearable.

1.  Charlotte Willer for Maybelline created this look for Jen Kao show.  Polished grunge was the inspiration behind the look.  Bright lips and flirty lashes are a contrast to the sleek eyes.

2.  Aaron De Mey for Lancome created this look at L’Wren Scott.   Aaron wanted a “super bronzed” look with bronze lips and chocolate eyes.  Browns, bronzes and golds were used to create smoky eyes and bronzer was used all over the face.

3.  Charlotte Willer for Maybelline created the look for the Bibhu Mohapatra. Charlotte was inspired by the women in Helmut Newton’s iconic photographs.  Instead of a bold eye or lip, everything on the face was left neutral.

4.  Charlotte Willer for Maybelline created this look for L.A.M.B.  This look was inspired from a trip to India.  A dark dramatic lined eye is the focal point – a modern take on kohl.  (As you can tell, the Maybelline looks were some of my favorite!)

5.  Essie was the nail polish of choice at Tory Burch.   Mademoiselle (my personal all-time favorite nail color from Essie) was used to create the soft, classic nail look to complement the floral prints.

6. NARS artists created this metallic smoky eye for Naeem Kahn.  Inspired by Spanish women he gave the models a clean face with bold brows and a smoky eye and nude lips – very wearable.

7.  Gato Zamora for Maybelline created this look for the Custo Barcelona show.  A modern take on natural beauty.  The skin is flawless, almost silicone-like and the brows are bold and lips have a sweet shiny look.

8.  A model in a Naeem Kahn gown.

9.  Dick Page for Shiseido crated this look for the Michael Kors show.  An African safari was the inspiration for this “Out of Africa” look.  Now I want to see the movie again.
