Runway Beauty: Heavy Metal Look at Alexander Wang A/W 2015

February 22nd, 2015

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Inspired by heavy metal rock, the look at Alexander Wang A/W 2015 was “gothic, rock-and-roll” with eyes drenched in moody grays for a slept-in look, contoured cheeks and creamy taupe nails.

Nails: Michelle Saunders for essie

Kendal created the gorgeous eye look by applying Aigle Noir Velvet Shadow Stick (available Fall 2015) topped with Transvaal Eye Paint, a matte medium cool-toned grey. She added the matte gray-brown shade of Bellissima Duo Eyeshadow on the lower eye, blending directly onto the circles of the eyes and on the cheeks to further heighten the Gothic vibe. The rest of the face was left dewy with Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer/Sheer Glow Foundation and Radiant Creamy Concealer.

To create the ghostly, obscure taupe nail look, Saunders layered two coats of jazz, with a neutralizing matte top coat.

Runway Beauty: Undone Elegance at Naeem Khan Spring/Summer 2015

September 10th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Naeem Khan Spring/Summer 2015, models rocked an undone beauty in fresh skin and glossy eyes paired with a stained lip and creamy pink nails.

Makeup: NARS Director of Global Artistry James Boehmer
Nails: Julie Kandalec for essie

“Naeem’s inspiration this season was actress Lauren Bacall. We liked the idea of this classic, old Hollywood Naeem girl but a bit more ‘undone’. Fresh skin, glossy eyes and a stained lip is where we landed.” explained Boehmer.

Skin was evened out with Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer and Radiant Creamy Concealer and set with Soft Velvet Loose Powder (new for Spring 2015). Cheeks were lightly sculpted with the right side of Fervor Dual Intensity Blush (new for Spring 2015).

On the eyes, Cappadoce Matte Multiple and Coconut Grove Matte Eyeshadow were used to add depth (Mambo Eyeliner and Bengali Matte Eyeshadow were used on models with darker skintones). Lashes were coated with Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara and Triple X Lip Gloss was dabbed on the eyelid for a glossy sheen. Finally, lips were painted with Ingrid Audacious Lipstick using a brush for a stained look.

Both hands and feet received essie fiji, a creamy pale pink shade, for an elegant but not too glamorous touch.

Romantic Makeup & Voluminous Ponytail at Jenny Packham Bridal Spring 2015

April 25th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

With bridal season in full swing, now is the time to drool over some very pretty dresses and catch up on the latest bridal hair and makeup. At Jenny Packham Bridal Spring 2015 Collection, the look was inspired by photographs of 1930s British society photographer, Madame Yevonde. The photographs’ soft tonal colors and hazy, neoclassical ambiance directly influenced the design and palette of the collection and translating into a romantic hair and makeup look that consisted of earthy colors and a voluminous ponytail.

To create a flawless complexion, lead makeup artist Talia Shobrook first prepped skin with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Hydrating. Next, she used Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide to create a healthy, even tone. Then, she covered any imperfections using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. To sculpt the cheeks, she applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cashmere followed by a thin layer of Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Barely Pink. Next, she applied Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder underneath the eyes and dusted Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in Universal on the rest of the face to set the makeup and make the skin appear “demi-matte”. To highlight and give “freshness to the skin”, Shobrook applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Hydrating to the cheeks and the tip of the nose using the Laura Mercier Fan Powder Brush.

On the eyes, Shobrook first primed the eye area with Laura Mercier Eye Basics. Immediately before application, she wet Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Café au Lait before finely applying it starting from the inner corner, following the lashline and extending it out to the outer corner with a sharp tick. Next, she lightly applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Sesame onto the eyelids before sculpting the eye with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cashmere in the crease using Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush. Shobrook then highlighted under the brow bone with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Buttercream and coated lashes with Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Suprême Lash Building Mascara. She then went over the mascara with a clean mascara wand to separate the lashes. To tie the look together and flawlessly frame the face, she lightly defined the eyebrows using Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil.

For a full lip, Shobrook mixed Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Sienna and Cocoa and applied the combination to the lips with Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush, starting in the middle and fading out, which allowed a transparency of color. This application technique allowed the color to appear more concentrated in the center of the lips.

Hair
Hairstylist Jeanie Syfu working for Tresemme gave models a low ponytail with lots of volume around the crown. Here’s how:

1. Apply Tresemme 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse liberally to all sections of the hair, then rough-dry.

2. Brush out the hair with a Mason Pearson brush to work the product in and apply clip-in hair extensions from the nape of the neck to just above the ear, as needed.

3. Tease hair in small sections and lightly spray with Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

4. With your fingers, gather hair at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic.

5. Take a small strand of hair from underneath the ponytail and wrap around the base to cover the elastic and pin into place.

6. Loosen the ponytail just behind the ears at the nape to create a round shape. Gently pull a few wisps of hair from the ponytail to frame the face and fluff the hair lightly with fingers.

7. Finish with Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for long-lasting volume.

NARS Matte Multiple Review, Swatches and Photos Part II

April 1st, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

More on the new NARS Matte Multiple, a multi-purpose makeup stick that can be used on the lips and cheeks with a matte finish.

NARS Siam, Exumas, Anguilla and Laos Matte Multiples

NARS Siam, Exumas, Anguilla and Laos Matte Multiples

Like the original Multiple, the Matte Multiple comes in a portable black tube with a twist-up design. Although the tube looks just a bit thinner, you only get 0.26 oz of product, which is half as much as the 0.50 oz with the original.

The formula is also different. Unlike the original which can be used on the eye, cheek, lip and body, the Matte Multiple is only meant for the cheek and lip. It can be used dry for more intensity or wet for a sheerer effect. A great way to create dimension as suggested by NARS, is to use it wet over the high points of the cheek for a sheer veil of color, then dry underneath the cheekbone.

Color selection wise, there are a total of 7 that ranged from pinks and corals to bronzes. I had reviewed the bronzer shades in my last post so here are the remaining 4.

* Anguilla is a light baby pink with yellow undertones and the lightest color in the whole collection.
* Exumas is an orangy apricot.
* Siam is a super bright cool-toned poppy red. It looked really intense in the tube but blended to a softer red that created the perfect flush for my skintone.
* Laos is a rose coral that looks like cherry Chapstick.

The colors were all very wearable and doubled nicely as both blush and lip colors on my NC30 skintone. But they felt creamy and glided onto my cheeks easily, they were not moisturizing enough for my dry lips and clung onto flakes. The colors were also very pigmented, in fact, more so than some of the regular Multiples. Plus they dried off quickly to a matte finish that stayed on for 8 hours straight.

Overall, NARS Matte Multiple is nice investment that works best as blush and bronzer.
