Beauty by Koh Gen Do

March 1st, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Have you heard of Koh Gen Do makeup? I hadn’t heard of it until recently and knew I had to check it out at Barneys when I was in NY a few weeks ago. Koh Gen Do is a Japanese line of healthy skincare and makeup made for high definition purposes. Many actresses and models use the line and with HD everywhere, there’s no room for imperfect makeup anymore.

When at Barneys I was talking with Rafael from the Giorgio Armani line and told him I wanted to check out Koh Gen Do. He showed me a few of his favorites from the line – the Cleansing Water and the Maifanshi Lipstick. I also wanted to check out the foundation, so he sent me home with a few samples of the foundations and foundation corrector. I patiently waited for the lipstick and cleansing water to be sent to me when Barneys had their recent beauty/fragrance purchase and to get my bag with the goodies inside.

My package arrived the other day and Rafael was right – the Cleansing Water is amazing. It takes off all my makeup – even waterproof eye liner without a problem, it doesn’t irritate which is a big plus, as lately a few I’ve tried have been really irritating to my eye area. There’s absolutely no oil and it doesn’t have an oily or greasy feel to it, it just feels and looks like water. The water is from the Yumura Hot Springs in Izumo, Japan and has white birch sap, which is harvested only 3 weeks in early spring which has an abundance of minerals and xylitol. It’s infused with rosemary leaf extract, sage leaf extract, lavender extract, artemisia princeps leaf extract, perilla ocymoides left extract and ginger root extract.

I also purchased 2 lipsticks. Rafael had used them in a combo on me and I really liked the look. But, I also like using them individually. Pink Beige (left) is a great natural shade and Pink Rose a pretty flush to the lips. These are super creamy, moisturizing and sheer and contain no artificial fragrances, color, petroleum based mineral oils or parabens.

Rafael sent me home with a few foundation sample packets and primer packets. I found that the Foundation Color Corrector does tone down the redness in my face, but seemed to make my skin rather dry. I think it would be best if you had oily skin to use this, certainly not for dry skin. I LOVE the Aqua Foundation – it makes my skin flawless and smooth, yet it covers discoloration without being heavy. I will definitely be purchasing this. I just tested the Moisture Foundation – it seemed to go on dry at first, but then worked in my skin beautifully as well. I’m going to give this one a few my tries before determining exactly how I feel about it. Neither of these foundations come in a lot of shade choices, so finding the right one to work could be difficult.

My overall thoughts on Koh Gen Do? It’s a line I’m so glad I heard about and subsequently checked out. I’ll be adding Koh Gen Do to my beauty stash. And I’ll be taking the sample cleansing cloths I received in my Barneys bag with me on my trip to LA this weekend. I’ll let you know how those are too.
