Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Review, Swatches and Photos

October 27th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

It is no secret that Laura Mercier makes one of the best foundations out there – just ask the long line of celebrity fans including Katy Perry, Jennifer Anniston, Angelina Jolie and more. And this fall, we have Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide, a new addition to the permanent collection.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Review Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide
Boasting a lightweight, 12-hour wear and oil-free formula, the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide is a liquid foundation that claims to magically blur imperfections and is suitable for all skin types. Its bi-phase formula utilizes a Hydro-Brilliant Technology that features reflective waters and natural silica for color-true shades and requires shaking prior to each use to activate fresh color, just like Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup. The foundation is designed to be water-resistant, humidity-proof and sweat-proof and is non-comedogenic as well.

There is a wide selection of 24 shades to fit different skintones. On my NC30 skintone, I use Cashew, a light color with neutral/slightly warm undertones. Macadamia and Dusk were two other matches that could work.

Compared to the Laura Mercier Moisturizing Foundation that I loved, the Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide felt much thinner and more lightweight. Despite its runny texture, the foundation was nicely pigmented and offered medium, buildable coverage. I like to put a few drops on a foundation brush and apply under my eyes and around the nose for coverage that is just enough for everyday.

The foundation blended very easily and dried off swiftly to a natural, matte finish that looked and felt like skin. While it did not feel particularly moisturizing on my dehydrated combo skin, it did not highlight dry patches or flakes either. Also worth mentioning is how well the foundation wore. Even without a primer, the foundation stayed on nicely without oxidizing or fading for over 8 hours.

Romantic Makeup & Voluminous Ponytail at Jenny Packham Bridal Spring 2015

April 25th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

With bridal season in full swing, now is the time to drool over some very pretty dresses and catch up on the latest bridal hair and makeup. At Jenny Packham Bridal Spring 2015 Collection, the look was inspired by photographs of 1930s British society photographer, Madame Yevonde. The photographs’ soft tonal colors and hazy, neoclassical ambiance directly influenced the design and palette of the collection and translating into a romantic hair and makeup look that consisted of earthy colors and a voluminous ponytail.

To create a flawless complexion, lead makeup artist Talia Shobrook first prepped skin with Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Hydrating. Next, she used Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide to create a healthy, even tone. Then, she covered any imperfections using Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. To sculpt the cheeks, she applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cashmere followed by a thin layer of Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Barely Pink. Next, she applied Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder underneath the eyes and dusted Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in Universal on the rest of the face to set the makeup and make the skin appear “demi-matte”. To highlight and give “freshness to the skin”, Shobrook applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer – Hydrating to the cheeks and the tip of the nose using the Laura Mercier Fan Powder Brush.

On the eyes, Shobrook first primed the eye area with Laura Mercier Eye Basics. Immediately before application, she wet Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Café au Lait before finely applying it starting from the inner corner, following the lashline and extending it out to the outer corner with a sharp tick. Next, she lightly applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Sesame onto the eyelids before sculpting the eye with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Cashmere in the crease using Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush. Shobrook then highlighted under the brow bone with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Buttercream and coated lashes with Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Suprême Lash Building Mascara. She then went over the mascara with a clean mascara wand to separate the lashes. To tie the look together and flawlessly frame the face, she lightly defined the eyebrows using Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil.

For a full lip, Shobrook mixed Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Colour in Sienna and Cocoa and applied the combination to the lips with Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush, starting in the middle and fading out, which allowed a transparency of color. This application technique allowed the color to appear more concentrated in the center of the lips.

Hair
Hairstylist Jeanie Syfu working for Tresemme gave models a low ponytail with lots of volume around the crown. Here’s how:

1. Apply Tresemme 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse liberally to all sections of the hair, then rough-dry.

2. Brush out the hair with a Mason Pearson brush to work the product in and apply clip-in hair extensions from the nape of the neck to just above the ear, as needed.

3. Tease hair in small sections and lightly spray with Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

4. With your fingers, gather hair at the nape of the neck and secure with an elastic.

5. Take a small strand of hair from underneath the ponytail and wrap around the base to cover the elastic and pin into place.

6. Loosen the ponytail just behind the ears at the nape to create a round shape. Gently pull a few wisps of hair from the ponytail to frame the face and fluff the hair lightly with fingers.

7. Finish with Tresemme 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for long-lasting volume.

For the 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night, makeup artist Monika Blunder created an “effortless, Parisian-chic” bronzy look on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Get the 411 on the look after the jump!

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Makeup at 2014 Vanity Fair Oscar Party
First, Blunder prepped the skin with Laura Mercier Oil-Free Primer. Then, using her fingers, she applied Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (launching Fall 2014) all over her face and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage to cover any imperfections. Next, Blunder blended Laura Mercier Secret Concealer #2 under Huntington-Whiteley’s eyes with Laura Mercier Finishing Eye Brush. She then set everything with Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent.

To create the gorgeous glow you see on Rosie, Blunder applied Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder #3 with Laura Mercier Bronzer Brush before adding a touch of Laura Mercier Shimmer Bloc in Golden Mosaic.

On Rosie’s eyes, Blunder started with Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Buff all over the eyelid, followed by a veil of Sateen Eye Colour in Baroque on top and Matte Eye Colour in Café au Lait for definition. She then lined her Rosie’s eyes using Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Stormy Grey in an outward motion to create a cat eye and softened the line with Laura Mercier Smudge Brush. To intensify the smoky-eye effect, Blunder applied Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Cocoa with Laura Mercier Pony Tail Brush and highlighted the inner corners with Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Ballet Pink. Next, Blunder added Laura Mercier Matte Eye Colour in Café au Lait along the lower lashline, curled the lashes and
applied generous coats of Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara. Finally, she groomed Rosie’s brows using Laura Mercier Brow Grooming Brush and added extra definition with Laura Mercier Eye Brow Pencil in Ash Blonde.

Get Anne Hathaway’s Makeup and Hair at 2013 Met Gala!

May 8th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Anne Hathaway wowed the crowd with a soft purple smoky eye and yes, edgy platinum blonde hair at the 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Annual Costume Institute Gala . Here’s how to recreate her look!

Face
Makeup artist Adam Breuchaud applied Laura Mercier Foundation Primer to give Hathaway’s skin an “even, lasting finish”. Then, he used a damp sponge to apply Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 in Porcelain to even out her skin tone and give the skin an “amazingly sheer veil of color”. Lastly, he lightly dusted on Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder to set the Tinted Moisturizer and ensure the skin kept its “dewy finish” throughout the night.

Eyes
Inspired by the electric blue eye shadow worn by punk icon Debbie Harry, Breuchaud mixed Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color in Orchid with Laura Mercier Matte Eye Color in Deep Night. To deepen the look, he applied Laura Mercier Crème Eye Liner in Noir to her lashline and blended the eyeliner throughout the corner of her eye using Laura Mercier Corner Eye Color Brush. Breuchaud added the final touch of glamor by applying multiple coats of Laura Mercier Faux Lash Mascara in Black to the top and bottom lashes.

Lips
To complement the dramatic eye, Breuchaud went for a fresh, natural lip. He applied Laura Mercier Crème Smooth Lip Color in Pink Blush which he described as a “beautiful soft pink” to Hathaway’s lips.

Hair
“Drawing inspiration from unforgettable punk icons like Poly Styrene from X-ray Spex and Joan Jett, I decided to go for a look that’s glam, edgy and yet very youthful and fun. We kept the style much shorter for Anne and had a lot of fun playing around with it. To enhance her punk look further we decided to take her hair to the next level: A new cool Platinum blonde color and the sharp slightly boyish finish with loads of texture were the perfect match,” says Celebrity Stylist Sascha Breuer.

Step-By-Step Styling
1. Start by applying a golf ball sized amount of Wella Professionals Extra Volume Mousse to damp hair for the perfect foundation and to provide hold and volume.

2. Blow dry the hair into shape using your fingers or a skeleton brush. Dry the longer hair on top back and upwards by gently pulling the hair away from the scalp to boost the volume and some lift to it.

3. Push brush and dry the sides flat to the head backwards allowing them to set narrow to the head.

4. Once the hair is completely dry use a small amount of Wella Professionals Bold Move styling paste. Spread the paste evenly between the palm of your hands and work the product through the mid length and ends to create a deep, slightly messy texture.

5. Mist hair with Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray to ensure that your style will last all night.

2013 MET Gala Beauty Trend: Graphic Eye Makeup

May 7th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Graphic eye makeup dominated the red carpet of the 2013 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Annual Costume Institute Gala last night. Inspired by 80s film, “Ladies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains”, makeup Artist Erin Ayanian created a soft look with NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto and Barrow Street on Dakota Fanning.

January Jones on the other hand rocked a heavier, black graphic eye. Celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin applied Chanel Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Mirifique on the inner and outer edges of her eyes then embellished the look by adding jet crystals on top.

Then there’s Ginnifer Goodwin, whose Siouxsie and the Banshees/punk-rock-inspired look reminded me of the look from Alexander McQueen Fall 2007. To create the look, makeup artist Mai Quynh applied Laura Mercier Matte Eye Shadow in Noir to the lashline, winged it out then connected it to her eyebrow – filling in the shape completely. Next, Quynh layered Laura Mercier Sequin Eye Colour in Black Ice over the lid, along the lashline and under the eyebrows, blending all together. Next, Laura Mercier Sateen Eye Colour in Seashell Pink was blended it all over the lid and Black Ice, creating a gradual light to dark effect. The look was finished with individual faux eyelashes and a few coats of Laura Mercier Full Blown Volume Lash Building Mascara in Black on the top lashes and Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Violet around the eyes.

Are you guys digging this trend? Learn how to rock graphic eyeliner with my tutorial!
