“Amber brought some of her own ideas to the mix,” said Matthew. “She liked the idea of focusing on sultry chocolate eyes, creamy skin and soft nude lips. I was just bringing out the remarkable geometry and beauty of her face.”

How To
Moisturize skin with Cle de Peau Gentle Nourishing Emulsion. Prime with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, conceal with Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Warm, and follow with Hourglass Veil Fluid Makeup in Light Beige.

Define the brows with Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette. Apply the shell shade from the Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Palette as a base color all over the lids. Follow with the bronze shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy applied to the crease and under the eyes. Deepen the bronze with the brown shade from Vol. 6 Eye Palette applied to the outer corner, top and bottom of the lids. Line the eyes with a deep plum pencil like MAC Eye Kohl Prunella. “I also smudged the line with the black shadow from the palette,” says Matthew. Apply a high-shine pearl shadow to the inner corner of the eye. Apply a coat of Hourglass Film Noir Mascara, allow to dry and curl lashes. Amplify with individual lashes like Ardell Duralash Flare in Medium Black.

Apply the sheer rose shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Sunset to the cheeks, and highlight with the sheer champagne shade from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light. Retrace your steps with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light, an opalescent sheer powder which mimics a moonlit glow.

Line lips with Hourglass Trace Lip Liner in Bare and follow with Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Whisper, a golden pinky beige shimmer.

NYFW Exclusive Coverage: Beautiful Island Girl at Christian Siriano S/S 2014

September 8th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Inspired by Isla Mujeres on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the Christian Siriano S/S 2014 Collection was all about colors and vivid prints. As a result, the beauty look centered around glowy skin, a bright lip with beachy hair and colorblocked nails.

Makeup artist Polly Osmond working for Hourglass Cosmetics went for an “island girl” look with a focus on “a diffusion of light, texture and color”. She kept the skin fresh by first prepping with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, followed by Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer and Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer. The cheeks were then lightly contoured with the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (coming October for Holiday 2013) and finished with a dab of Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum on the apples for a glowy look.

On the eyes, Polly applied the Incandescent shade from Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette all over the lid. She added a shimmery white eyeshadow, Shell from Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Shadow Palette, to the inner corner and along the top and bottom of the lashlines to open up the eyes. Next, she coated lashes with Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara while brushed the brows with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum onto brows for a bit of shine.

Finally, the lips were prepped with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil, before coated with Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Muse, a gorgeous orange coral liquid lipstick that dries down to a matte finish. The outline of the lips were then slightly blended with a lip brush for a diffused look.

Red Carpet Manicure celebrity manicurist Lisa Logan was the mastermind behind the super cool colorblocked nails for the show. “Nails shouldn’t have to compete, they should only complement,” explained Lisa. Using Red Carpet Manicure, the first at-home LED gel system, she created press-on tips with a nude base and a block of yellow down the middle. “We used Fake Bake, a natural color, and The Perfect Pair, a yellow, but added White Hot underneath the yellow to make it pop.”

To complete the beachy vibe of the look, lead stylist Anthony Cole working for Sebastian Professional gave models a “texturized, dreaded ponytail, some higher some lower”. He used three key products – Volupt Spray, Mousse Forte and Microweb Fiber – before using a straightening iron to further create waves for an erratic texture. Finally, he added a chain brand using 1/4″ section of the hair from the bottom of the ponytail and wrapped it around the ponytail for a soft, organic feel.

Celebrity Hair & Makeup: Shailene Woodley at 2012 Oscars

March 6th, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Need hair and makeup ideas to go with a white dress? Take a cue from Shailene Woodley, who totally nailed the look at the 84th Annual Academy Awards with a Valentino Couture gown, sultry coppery shadow and chic chignon.

Shailene Woodley hair and makeup at 2012 Oscars
“Today is a special day for Shailene and so I wanted to use a little more makeup than what she typically wears,” says makeup artist Stephen Sollitto working for Hourglass Cosmetics. “Her look is about luminous skin, defined eyes and a sophisticated palette of coppers and bronzes. She looked exquisite yet still young, fresh and fashionable.”

Stephen began by prepping Shailene’s skin with Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer to create a smooth canvas for makeup and ensure a flawless finish with real longevity. He followed with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer in Shell, which imbues skin with luminosity, and Hidden Corrective Concealer in Fair, an undetectable cover-up.

To add warmth, he contoured Shailene’s cheekbones with Hourglass Superficial Waterproof Bronzer, a silky powder that withstands high humidity, sweeping the product to her temples, hair line, nose and chin. He then applied a dusty rose blush and finished with the highlighter from Hourglass Illume Crème-to-Powder Bronzer Duo in Bronze Light for a gorgeous glow.

Stephen lined her eyes with Hourglass Calligraphy Liquid Eye Liner in Cognac, a rich brown shade. Before adding eye shadow, Stephen applied Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara to gauge the darkness of her eyes. He also swept Hourglass Film Noir Lash Lacquer at the roots of the lashes for drama, thickness and inky black sheen. Stephen then covered the entire lid of the eye with the cream shimmer shade of Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Suede to reflect light. Last, he applied the copper shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy for a dose of dramatic color.

Stephen lined the lips with Hourglass Trace Lip Liner in Bare, and followed with Hourglass Prodigy Hydrating Lip Gloss in Eden for a peachy beige sheen.

Hair stylist Campbell McAuley gave Shailene a ’70s style textured chignon with a Moroccan twist to mirror the textures of her dress.

1. Starting with wet hair, apply Matrix Total Results Amplify Wonder Boost Root Lifter to give the base of the hair volume.

2. Blowdry hair with a round brush to smooth the texture.

3. Set hair in Velcro rollers for one hour.

4. Remove rollers, brush out curls and worked Matrix Total Results Sleek Silk Wonder Smoothing Oil from roots to end for shine.

5. Gather all hair into a textured ponytail at the crown of the head.

6. Twist small sections of the ponytail and wrap them up to the base of the hair to make a round shape.

7. Half way through, wrap remaining sections around the round shape to give it a criss-cross texture.

8. Finish with Matrix Design Pulse Hard Lock Hairspray to hold the style in place.

For Shailene’s nails, Celebrity Manicurist Nettie Davis used a mix of essie’s Ballet Slippers and Au Natural to create a light, neutral manicure. “I wanted to create a simple nail to complement Shailene’s mod 70s style dress. I created a neutral beige mixing Ballet Slippers and Au Natural,” stated Davis.

Hourglass Aura Cheek & Lip Stains

March 18th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

About a month ago I showed you the looks that Hourglass Beauty Director Michael Pierce created for the Adrienne Vittadini Runway show. I received countless emails from fans of the makeup looks and the fact that Adrienne used real looking women that weren’t teens or early 20′s – many of the women were supermodels we grew up with.

One of the products Michael used on the women was this new Aura Stain by Hourglass Cosmetics. What’s so different about this stain? Several things. One main factor is that with most other stains you have color control issues. They can go on quite intense in color and you have to really work them in quickly to get them to look natural. You also typically end up with stained fingertips after working the product in. But Hourglass has solved all these issues with the Aura Cheek and Lip Stains.

The shade shown above is Petal. As you can see the top of it is a felt like cloth top. Turn the bottom to get the product out on the top and spread on your cheek – no fingertips needed and no staining of fingertips.

You can see how sheer these go on, and very easy! They last for hours, too.

The tip of the lip stain is also a soft fabric top. The lip color goes on more intensely, not as sheer as the cheek color, but is a long lasting stain.

As always, these new Hourglass products do not contain parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, phthalates.

Hourglass Cosmetics Film Noir Mascara Review

September 8th, 2010

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

I finally got my hands on the latest Hourglass Cosmetics Film Noir Mascara celebrity makeup artist Gina Brooke raved about. Let’s find out if it’s worth the hype! The mascara comes in a sleek, glossy tube with the Hourglass logo embossed on the side. There is only one shade available, Onyx, which is a rich black color. The triple-cut, hourglass-shaped brush is long and slender and works great in separating lashes while giving them a nice lift. The Pro-Vitamin B5 enriched formula feels very creamy and keeps my lashes soft and conditioned …
