Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Pretty Boy Collection for Fall/Winter 2011

Who says makeup is only for girls? From David Bowie and Boy George to Adam Lambert, Jared Leto and today’s crop of glam rockers, the impact men have made on the art of makeup is one that still resonates through the present day and boys keep swinging!

Pretty Boy, OCC’s new Fall/Winter 2011 Colour Collection, takes its inspiration from these artists and performers to present a palette created to empower all genders to express themselves with colour.

The creative process began backstage at the Fall/Winter 2011 Collections where the runways were littered with brightly coloured makeup including intense neons and saturated pastels, not typical of what to expect from makeup trends meant for the later months of the year. At BESS NY, under the direction of Makeup Artist Vincent Oquendo, male and female models alike took to the runway in bold neon lips, multi-colored eyes and with some literally covered head-to-toe in glitter. At Eva Minge, Makeup Artist Kristi Matamoros created a look that showcased almost-neon red lips, and at Logan Neitzel, Makeup Artist Victor Henao’s look featured a graphic green/black eye makeup look that made models of both sexes look equally mysterious and androgynous.

OCC’s take on the trend features 6 new intense shades of Lip Tar, alongside new Nail Lacquers, Loose Colours, Pure Pigment powders (a pro favorite!) and Glitter to finish off the look with a bold and dramatic flourish. Available September 6th @ occmakeup.com.

Summer Makeup with Chanel

April 20th, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Summer Makeup with Chanel

You can’t review new products without actually testing them, right? Here’s a look I put together to test out some of the products from Chanel’s summer collection! Reviews/swatches to come :)

You will need the following…

  • Eyes: NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base, Chanel Lilium Eyeshadow Quad (beige, chartreuse, blackened green, mauve-taupe), Make Up For Ever #17L Aqua Eyes (chartreuse), Hourglass Film Noir Mascara (black)
  • Face: Ellis Faas SkinVeil (S104), Guerlain Les Violettes Mineral Powder (03)
  • Cheeks: Chanel Bronze Corail Soleil Tan de Chanel (bronze with coral)
  • Lips: Chanel Sari Dore Rouge Coco Lipstick (coral orange), Chanel Pensee Glossimer (sheer coral)
  • Brushes: 249 (flat, firm brush), 239 (fluffy shadow brush), 222 (fluffy crease brush), 184 (fan brush)

For eyes, start by applying Smudgeproof as your eyeshadow base all over the eye with the 249. Apply the chartreuse eyeshadow to the lower half of the lid from inner to outer with the 239, just patting it on. Next, apply the mauve-taupe eyeshadow above the crease with the 222, blending outwards. With the 239, apply the blackened green eyeshadow into the crease with the 239, blending slightly downwards to cover the remaining portion of the lid and softening with the chartreuse eyeshadow. Highlight the brow bone with the beige eyeshadow with the 217. Apply 17L liner on the lower water line, and then smudge the blackened green eyeshadow against the lower lash line with the edge of the 239. Finish by sweeping lashes with Film Noir mascara.

For cheeks, apply Bronze Corail bronzer on the apples of the cheeks and sweep towards the temple with the 116.

For lips, apply Sari Dore lipstick first, then top with Pensee glossimer for a complementing lip.

Giorgio Armani Spring 2011 Collection: Transluminence

Giorgio Armani Spring 2011 Collection: Transluminence

Giorgio Armani introduces colours of nature, awakened by the morning light.

Light and nature are two major themes that have infused Giorgio Armani’s aesthetic and vision of makeup since its creation.

The Armani makeup collection for spring 2011 plays with transparency to ignite a woman’s face. Bright colours that allow infinite layering and blending create a new landscape of tones. There is a new smoky look for the eyes produced with radiant colours. From soft to dramatic, the look seen at the Armani spring/summer 2011 fashion show was a fresh interpretation of “La Femme Bleue”.

This season the must-have look utilises a perfect harmony of diaphanous forest green and purple iris on eyes, contrasted with frozen pink light on skin and lips. The inspiration: fresh morning dew on a wild bunch of flowers.

Makeup artist Linda Cantello, who worked on the Armani spring/summer 2011 fashion show, says: “Imagine the richest purple and the deepest green both enlivened by a frozen silver. A soft black completes the palette, to be worn alone as liner or to add depth to smoky eyes. Freshened by the softest baby lips, a beautiful frosty blush completes this new way of facing spring in the depths of winter.”

Transluminence Eye Palette ($58.00)

Blend and layer the four full, rich, colour-intense translucent tones. Apply rich purple iris with an eye brush to the eyelid and add dewy forest green. These will fuse together into a vibrant blue turquoise. Render the effect even more luminous with a layer of frozen silver. Open up the eye with a touch of silver on the inside corner. Outline the under eye or the eyelid with soft black eye colour, applied wet or dry.

Transluminence Face Palette ($49.00)

Sculpt the face with frost bitten Sheer Translucent Blush presented in the spring signature face palette.

Rouge d’Armani ($30.00)

  • Dawn Pink (518)
  • Early Morning Rose (508)
  • Petal Pink (503)

Availability: giorgioarmanibeauty.com and at Armani Fifth Avenue and select fine department stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom and Barneys in Spring 2011
