Anastasia Holiday 2012 Want You To Want Me Set Review and Swatches

November 14th, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Besides the Kisses On My List Volume 2 Hydrafull Gloss Set I reviewed previously, Anastasia brings us a gorgeous limited-edition eye set, Want You To Want Me Makeup Set, for Holiday 2012.

Anastasia Holiday 2012 Want You To Want Me Set review
Packaged in a 5″ by 5″ velvet black box with a magnetic clip, the Want You To Want Me Set ($34) comes with a 9-eyeshadow palette, Liquid Eye Liner, Mini Clear Brow Gel and dual-ended shadow brush.

The Eyeshadow Palette comes with 9 Illumin8 Eyeshadows in a gorgeous selection of nude and purple shades in both matte and shimmer finishes. Just like the full-sized Illumin8 shadows, these applied smoothly with great color payoff and stayed on nicely for hours without creasing or fading.

The Liquid Liner comes with a long, thin brush that allows great precision. I loved the super intense black color but the staying power could be better. Even on my dry skin, the swatch smudged once I rubbed it and with just a bit of water, it faded completely.

Finally, the Mini Clear Brow Gel, which is 1/3 of Anastasia’s signature Brow Gel. It is enhanced with chamomile and did a great job setting my brows without making them stiff.

Hi Def Bridal Makeup Tips By Damian Castellanos At The Makeup Show Chicago

June 22nd, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Besides the body painting session, I also attended the Hi Def Bridal: Makeup for Today’s Bridal Artist seminar by makeup artist Damian Castellanos from Make Up For Ever. The pro showed us how to create a sultry smoky eye and shared with us some really great pointers on high def makeup. Keep reading to see Damian’s tips!

High Def Bridal Makeup Demo by Damian Castellanos from Make Up For Ever
* Facial hair will show up on HD cameras. The best solution is to have the bride get her face threaded before the big day or you can use a Japanese razor for emergencies.

* Minimize the use of glitter and sparkles as they do not show up well on HD camera. Stick to cream formulas when possible.

* The pictures are what stay after the wedding. Always check for texture and symmetry on a HD camera before sending your bride out.

* If you are going to use your fingers, make sure to sanitize your hands. Besides the obvious reason, it will also help get rid of body oils which can interfere with the makeup.

* HD cameras tend to flatten the complexion so remember to create dimension by using multiple colors.

* A pink makeup primer like Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer in 7 Pink is great for warming up the complexion or to lighten up a sallow or olive complexion.

* While bronzers are great for every day contouring, their red undertones can be intensified in HD. Stick to neutral colors like Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation 177 Cognac.

* Noses (like eyebrows) can be a personal thing and contouring them seldom looks good. Always check with your client before you contour. A great alternative to contouring a wide nose is to highlight it.

* For a flushed-within look, do a heavier application of cream blush under foundation. Make Up For Ever Flash Color in #5 Coral is a great color that will suit most skin tones.

* Waterproof products are designed to adhere to skin. Leave skin bare prior to using them.

* Always sharpen pencils for the creamiest texture.

* Too much black on the eyes can be harsh. Mix in a brown to help the black “melt” into the skin.

* When applying eyeliner, make sure you get super close to the lash line so no white is peeping through.

* To blend eyeshadow, Damian favors a precise brush over a fluffy one. This allows more controlled and specific blending.

* To achieve the most volume on the lips, line starting from the corner to the center. To reduce volume, line from the center to the corner.

* The less mascara the better on HD camera. Unless the client has really thin lashes, just curl them before you apply fake lashes.

* Running Make Up For Ever Brow Seal over the hair is a great way to tame flyaways.

And the finished look!

Transform Your Glow by Mixing Illuminators with Foundation

No matter what time of year it is, I find that most clients always want to accomplish a natural “glow” with their look. I personally have always liked a nice healthy, glowing complexion when doing my makeup on a daily basis, so I love trying out new products that would be me achieve this. An awesome tip that I tried once, fell in love with and kept it within my normal routine, is mixing a good illuminating product with foundation.

When you think of “glow,” most would reach into their beauty bag for a bronzer, which is perfectly fine. I tend to use an illuminating lotion rather than a bronzer because, for one, it blends into your foundation for a more seamless glow, and two, it looks more natural and tends to look a little more radiant.
When choosing and illuminating products, it’s best to use something that is sheerer (so that it doesn’t alter the color of your foundation), light, and doesn’t have a ton of shimmer, to give a more natural effect.

Think about it; when you “glow” naturally, your skin doesn’t produce large particles of glitter, right? Something with just a hint of shimmer will do the trick. There are many products out there that would help with this trick, but after trying numerous products, there are two in particular that I just love and can’t get enough of:

Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Lotion ($26.00) comes in three shades: Diffuse, which gives off a nice pearly effect, Flash, which has a hint of soft pink, and Glow, which is a soft, golden bronze. These are all great shades because of the lightweight feel and consistency of the lotion.  They also do not change the color of your foundation. I have found that “Flash” works on many of my clients, no matter their skin tone, and I reach for it all the time. All you need is just one to two pumps of the product and you get an awesome glow. I like to mix the lotion with foundation before applying to the face. This is definitely something that I keep in my personal kit as well as my professional kit.

This is another great product that will beautifully transform your foundation and give you a subtle glow, but make a great statement. This NARS Illuminator ($29.00) comes in four shades; a soft pearl shade called Copacabana, Laguna, which is a soft brown with golden shimmer, the best-seller, Orgasm, which is a peachy-pink lotion with a little shimmer, and Super Orgasm, also peachy-pink but with more of a golden, shimmery finish. All of these are great, but I have discovered that Copacabana and Orgasm looks amazing on just about anyone I apply it to. Just a very small amount of this product is needed to achieve a beautiful glow. Again, mix with foundation before applying to the face for maximum results!

With all of the illuminating products out there, what are some that you have tried and fell in love with? I’d love to know!

NUXE Crème Prodigieuse Eye Cream and Day Cream Reviews

August 22nd, 2011

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Coveted by top models and celebs all over the world, the famous NUXE Multi-Usage Prodigieuse Dry Oil has been transformed into a new face care line, Crème Prodigieuse, and will hit the shelves this fall!

NUXE Crème Prodigieuse
The new line consists of four daily anti-fatigue moisturizing creams – an eye cream, two day creams and a night cream – for women of all ages. All products contain at least 89.3% of ingredients of natural origin and are formulated without parabens. For my dehydrated combo skin, I was sent Contour des Yeux Prodigieux and Crème Prodigieuse – Normal to Combination Skin to try out.

The Contour des Yeux Prodigieux is a fluid eye cream that promises to smooth away signs of stress and fatigue from around the eyes by re-energizing the skin and combating the appearance of visible signs of aging, helping protect the skin from the effects of oxidative stress caused by daily environmental assaults. Ingredients include:

• Blue Everlasting, a flower that resists stress and possesses anti-free radical and anti-oxidant properties superior to those of vitamins C and E. It helps to protect the skin from external assaults and thus generating fewer free radicals for radiance and youthful appearance.
• Blue Agerate, a flower that is rich in polyphenols and flavonoids to help reduce the appearance of inflammation caused by free radicals. It also protects the skin from internal factors of oxidative stress so it becomes less reactive and retains its full radiance.
• Cocoa Extract to help delay epidermal cell aging by reducing the number of senescent cells by 50%. It also helps to offset the cellular deficit by increasing the capital of new cells ready to replace attacked cells. Skin is protected from the appearance of visible signs of premature aging, a major consequence of oxidative stress.
• Hyaluronic Acid to moisturize and smoothe fine lines caused by dehydration in the eye.
contour area.
• Plant caffeine extracted from green coffee beans for drainage-enhancing and clearing properties to diminish the look of dark circles and reduce undereye puffiness.

The texture is really light and sinks into the skin quickly. Right away, my eye area feels hydrated and so refreshed. The eye cream also works great under makeup without causing my foundation/concealer to ball up. I have yet to see a difference in my undereye circles but I definitely noticed a reduction in puffiness.

The Crème Prodigieuse, on the other hand, is a moisturizing day cream. Again it contains the main ingredients of the Crème Prodigieuse line – Blue Everlasting, Blue Agerate and Cocoa Extract -, along with mattifying mineral powders to modulate the light, soften the appearance of prominent zones and skin imperfections and mattify the complexion.

The texture is a little thicker than the eye cream but gets absorbed equally as fast and painless. It does a good job moisturizing my skin and leaves behind a velvety finish, which makes a great makeup base as well.

My only complaint would be the lack of SPF. Having to apply a separate sunscreen just seems a bit too much work since I’m always in a rush in the mornings. For that reason, I save this for the PM.

Bottom line, Crème Prodigieuse is a great basic skincare line that has kept my dehydrated combo skin supple and happy. Not to mention, the signature Prodigieuse Dry Oil scent is just HEAVENLY and so soothing! I definitely recommend the Crème Prodigieuse line for those with younger skin or do not need a lot of “correction”.

Overall Rating:

Contour des Yeux Prodigieux and Crème Prodigieuse – Normal to Combination Skin will be available at and SpaceNK for $35 and $28 in September.
