Chanel Holiday 2011 Collection: Les Scintillances de Chanel

The iconic colours of Chanel — gold, red, beige and black — are a never-ending source of inspiration for Peter Philips, Creative Director of Chanel Makeup. The glamorous proof: his Holiday 2011 Collection, Les Scintillances de Chanel. Golden reflections delicately sculpt the face with light, while eyes and lips shimmer in festive tones.

A true visionary, Mademoiselle Chanel found inspiration everywhere. Today, the Paris Makeup Studio does similarly — capturing the gilded beauty of Mademoiselle’s treasured belt buckle in LUMIÈRE SCULPTÉE DE CHANEL Highlighting Powder, an illuminating powder that gently highlights the skin with a sheer blend of tender pink and pearlescence. Shades of ivory and pink dusted with tone-on-tone mother-of-pearls make this palette the height of glamour and sophistication.

The new mark. Fall 2011 i-mark metallics Eyeshadows I have been dying to see are finally here!

mark. Fall 2011 i-mark metallics Eyeshadow
Jazzy is a frosty violet that flashes pink. It is similar to MAC Stars ‘n Rockets eyeshadow, only a bit frostier. The texture is slightly chalky but pigmentation is decent and very buildable.

Truffle is a shimmery bronze gold just like my favorite, now-discontinued Jane Magical Mushroom eyeshadow. It has a really chunky texture (think MAC Kitschmas pigment chunky) that does require a bit of layering and blending to get smooth, even color.

Lava is a dark olive green with very fine gold shimmer. It has the most buttery texture out of the three and applies with great pigmentation.

Overall, these are some really gorgeous, wearable colors that I can’t wait to wear for fall. However, their textures do seem to vary a lot by color. I would recommend using a primer underneath and a dense eyeshadow brush like MAC #239 for application.

Overall Rating:

mark. i-mark metallics will be available September 2011 at meetmark.com or through a mark. rep for $5 each.

Want the longevity of a gel eyeliner but the ease of a pencil? Then check out Taiwanese-based Jealousness Waterproof Gel Eyeliner, which has already stirred up quite some buzz in Asia!

Jealousness Gel Eyeliner
Jealousness Gel Eyeliner
With a cute pink and gold packaging, the Waterproof Gel Eyeliner boasts a formula that is both waterproof and smudgeproof. It measures roughly 12.5cm long, which is a little shorter than MAC eyeliners.

There are 8 colors to choose from, including your regular black and brown in both cream and shimmer finishes, along with white, purple, silver and navy.

I was sent the Diamond Heart and Electric Eye Gift Box Set to try out, which contains a sharpener and 3 colors:

BKS Diamond Black, an intense black with tiny specks of gold.
BK Smoked Black, a charcoal with tiny shimmer.
BNS Sparkling Brown, a chocolate brown with tiny specks of gold.

The colors are all versatile and will work on any eye color. I like using BKS and BK along the upper lashline, while BNS is perfect on the lower lid for a bit of definition without being harsh. They are also nicely pigmented, with my only gripe being that the glitter did not show up as much I wanted it to.

Thanks to its gel core, the pencil has an uber soft texture. It applies smoothly without scratching my eye and is easy to use, even for beginners.

The pencils are also truly waterproof. Once the color sets, it will not budge even if you run water over it. On my dry skin, it also manages to stay on all day until I remove it with an oil-based remover. But on a friend who has oilier skin, the color did seem to migrate a little after a few hours.

Onto pictures of me wearing the different colors:
