Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Review, Swatches and Photos

October 27th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

It is no secret that Laura Mercier makes one of the best foundations out there – just ask the long line of celebrity fans including Katy Perry, Jennifer Anniston, Angelina Jolie and more. And this fall, we have Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide, a new addition to the permanent collection.

Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Review Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide
Boasting a lightweight, 12-hour wear and oil-free formula, the Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide is a liquid foundation that claims to magically blur imperfections and is suitable for all skin types. Its bi-phase formula utilizes a Hydro-Brilliant Technology that features reflective waters and natural silica for color-true shades and requires shaking prior to each use to activate fresh color, just like Estee Lauder Invisible Fluid Makeup. The foundation is designed to be water-resistant, humidity-proof and sweat-proof and is non-comedogenic as well.

There is a wide selection of 24 shades to fit different skintones. On my NC30 skintone, I use Cashew, a light color with neutral/slightly warm undertones. Macadamia and Dusk were two other matches that could work.

Compared to the Laura Mercier Moisturizing Foundation that I loved, the Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide felt much thinner and more lightweight. Despite its runny texture, the foundation was nicely pigmented and offered medium, buildable coverage. I like to put a few drops on a foundation brush and apply under my eyes and around the nose for coverage that is just enough for everyday.

The foundation blended very easily and dried off swiftly to a natural, matte finish that looked and felt like skin. While it did not feel particularly moisturizing on my dehydrated combo skin, it did not highlight dry patches or flakes either. Also worth mentioning is how well the foundation wore. Even without a primer, the foundation stayed on nicely without oxidizing or fading for over 8 hours.

Runway Beauty: A Pop of Color at Athleta Spring/Summer 2015

September 4th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Athleta Spring/Summer 2015, key makeup artist Talia Shobrook working for Temptu Beauty chose a palette of feminine yet powerful colors to showcase the strong, sporty woman with a high fashion edge portrayed in the collection. “The look was a strong woman – someone who isn’t scared to show too much skin”, Talia explained. “For me, it’s a new thing – I’m calling it ‘Flawless Fun’. Fitness is such a huge part of our lives today, and flawless, healthy-looking skin is always the look I strive for. Even with a bold pop of color, the focus is always on a flawless complexion that exudes health”.

To create the look, Talia started by applying Base & Matte Primer to the surface of the skin blending outward. Next, she applied AIRpod Foundation in two light layers to achieve the flawless complexion with a vibrant, dewy finish. Using AIRpod Highlighter in Champagne, Talia applied in a circular motion around the “C” contour of the eye area, sweeping up the hairline towards the temple. She also applied the highlighter to the inner corner of the eye for a pop of brightness.

On the eyes, Talia used S/B Hi-Def in Yellow and Blue on alternating models for a winged cat-eye look that was both bold with just the right amount of playfulness. The apples of the cheeks were brightened with AIRpod Blush in Soft Peach applied in sweeping circular motion towards the hairline while the lips got an impactful pop of color with AIRpod Blush in Clementine.

Lastly, Talia finished the look with a sheer dusting of Invisible Difference Power in Shade One to the surface of the skin.

Crown Brush Flawless Face Blender Review

July 2nd, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Thanks to The Makeup Show Chicago 2014, I discovered Crown Brush Flawless Face Blender, which is now one of my HGs.

Crown Flawless Face Blender review

Crown Flawless Face Blender

The Crown Brush Flawless Face Blender is a non-allergenic, odor-free, double-sided and latex-free sponge applicator for applying and blending makeup. It comes in various colors, including black, pink (featured here) and peach.

Compared to the BeautyBlender I loved for years, the Flawless Face Blender is longer and just a tad narrower. Instead of a flat round bottom, it is pointy on both ends, which means you can use one end to get to those hard-to-reach areas like around the nose and under the eyes and the other to blend out eye makeup. You can also roll the Flawless Face Blender in a side-to-side manner to achieve the same blending effect you would get with the bottom part of the BeautyBlender.

To use the Flawless Face Blender, I wet it with water, squeeze out the excess then stipple over foundation applied by fingers or a brush to blend and even out streaks. When damp, the sponge became super soft and felt so good on the skin.

Another thing I loved about the Flawless Face Blender is it never seemed to bleed or get dirty. My BeautyBlender bled pretty much every single time I washed it and no matter how soon I washed it after each use, I could never get the makeup stains out completely. With the Crown Flawless Face Blender, there was minimal bleeding and makeup seemed to just come right out, even with baby shampoo.

Bottom line, I love the Crown Brush Flawless Face Blender and it has completely replaced the BeautyBlender as my must-have blending tool. And at $9.99 a piece – half the price of the BeautyBlender – I can definitely stock up on it without breaking the bank!

Runway Makeup: Gilded Eyes at Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2012

March 6th, 2012

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

To complement the opulence of Sicilian Baroque at Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2012, Pat McGrath used a combination of tonal nudes alongside with rich gold accents from the designers’ beauty line, Dolce & Gabbana The Makeup, on the models.

“It was wonderful to create this make up look for this collection; there is a real sense of divine drama to the clothes and so I wanted to bring that to life with the make up look. The models look refined and flawless, and their gilt edged lids really refer to the Designers’ lavish inspiration” says Pat.

To achieve a flawless look, Pat applied The Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation using The Foundation Brush. She carefully blended the foundation adding extra coverage on the nose and forehead. The Perfect Finish Concealer was then used to achieve a flawless, ethereal look illuminated with light. Finally, Pat used The Luminous Cheek Colour in Delight, sweeping colour lightly across models’ cheekbones for a romantic flush.

On the eyes, The Smooth Eye Colour Quad in Gold and Desert were applied in layers to create a luxurious, gilt rich tone. The Crayon Intense Eyeliner in Nude was then worked along the lash line above and below the eyes to brighten the look and add further definition. Finally, several coats of The Secret Eyes Mascara in Coffee were applied, achieving long, volumized lashes for a flirtatious look.

Turning her attention to the lips, Pat applied The Classic Cream Lipstick in Petal and Mandorla, mixing the colors together for a soft, sensual lip with a subtle sheen. The color was applied with greater intensity at the cupid’s bow for a pearlescent finish.

Pat chose The Intense Nail lacquer in Nude for a final subtle accent. The luxuriant finish of the nail color perfectly completed the sensuous makeup look.

Do You Trust Cosmetic Ads?

September 8th, 2010

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Post image for Do You Trust Cosmetic Ads?

When you’re watching a commercial with a flawless woman complaining about something and then putting on makeup to make her even more flawless, do you ever feel cheated? Do you feel like you can’t trust these companies that claim to sell you disappearing-wrinkle creams, acne-covering concealers, eyelash-enhancing mascaras, etc.? We’ve all been there, sitting in front of the TV, wondering why we never look the way the models do.

According to CosmeticsDesign, it’s time for that to change. Consumers are feeling more and more distrust every time they see one of these ads. One thing that will increase faith in these companies is the regulating associations, and obvious respect shown towards them. Also, the companies must (of course) fulfill their claims.

Social media is a tool that is more likely to help than hurt, if pulled off the right way, and it’s time for companies to step up to the plate. Feedback from purchasers will help, they claim.

Don’t sit on the couch disbelieving – buy the product and be amazed. And if you’re not amazed, that’s right – send that angry email. You have power. Use it.
