NYFW Exclusive Coverage: Fresh Makeup + Orange Lip at Sophie Theallet S/S 2014

September 20th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Sophie Theallet Spring/Summer 2014, models were given a look that was “very very very fresh… a little bit of grungy” with dewy skin and a stained orange lip.

Inspired by Sophie’s collection, lead makeup artist Tom Pecheux wanted the makeup to be “as minimal as possible. It’s not about the makeup, it’s about the lifestyle.”

To start, Tom massaged Face Lightful Essence into models skin before blending Face & Body Foundation and MatchMaster Concealer (new for Spring/Summer 2014) to even out skintone. He swept Pleasure Model Extra Dimension Blush (new for Spring/Summer 2014) over the cheeks and blended Medium Deep Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Foundation under cheekbones for a warm, sun-kissed effect. He finished by adding M·A·C PRO Shine Mixing Medium above the cheekbones to highlight.

On the eyes, he dabbed Particularly Pretty, a pale pink color from Spring 14 Trend Forecast/Eye, all over the lid and topped with M·A·C PRO Shine Mixing Medium. He kept the brows very natural by brushing them upwards while keeping lashes curled and bare with no mascara.

As for the lips, Tom was going for “see-through color instead of a full-on lip”. He used a new lipstick for Spring 2014 and blended M·A·C PRO Orange Lipmix over it for a stained effect.

Nails
Manicurist Keri Blair went for a “timeless nude for the hand and feet for a polished look”. She used the same color on the fingers and toes by mixing a cool-toned nude, Quiet Time, with a warm-toned nude, P.S. None (new for Spring/Summer 2014) and kept the shape of the nails round, short and chic.

Hair
Hairstylist Peter Gray created colorful buns. He started out by spraying models’ hair with Cutler Specialist Volumizing Spray then putting hair into a ponytail. Next, he knotted pieces of scrap fabric from the collection (picked randomly by the stylists) for a melange effect, before wrapping it into a bun. “Twisting is key when roping hair, the tighter the better,” explained Peter. “This look is achievable for everyday. You can use scarves or ribbons.” Another tip to nailing the look? “Pin as you go… this way, the bun will stay no matter how active you are.”

Runway Beauty: Navy + Gold Glittery Eye at Thakoon A/W 2013

April 28th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Besides foiling, another great way to instantly perk up your eyes and create that shiny effect is to pat glitter over a dark base. Case in point? The gorgeous glitter eye spotted at Thakoon A/W 2013.

“Thakoon’s winter collection is inspired by summer,” said lead makeup artist Diane Kendal, working for NARS Cosmetics. “So it was a combination of rich fabrics with short-sleeved dresses and heavy stoles with dragonflies. We wanted to reflect that in the makeup, so we did a very dark midnight blue shadow, but to get that summer feel we added glitter on top. It created the perfect juxtaposition between winter and summer.”

Runway Beauty: Rodarte Fall 2013

February 15th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

NARS teamed up with John Frieda to create the gorgeous look at Rodarte A/W 2013. While hairstylist Odile Gilbert went for a rocker princess look with a cool, “undone” texture, lead makeup artist James Kaliardos described the look as “the idea of makeup that had been applied on the beach – a bit messy, as if the mascara fell onto their faces. Speckled – like stars in the sky.”

Hair How To
Before drying the hair, Odile applied dollops of Frizz-Ease Curl Reviver Styling Mousse were applied to build texture while ensuring a smooth finish.

After hair was blow-dried, a 2-inch iron was used to create loose bends. Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier Hairspray was lightly misted over each section before it was wrapped around the iron to lock the waves in place.

Next, the waves were brushed out to make the texture look more natural, and braids on both sides were connected in the back of the head with a rose made of the models’ own hair.

To finish the look, a dime size of the Frizz-Ease Hair Serum Thermal Protection Formula was smoothed over random ends to make sure the overall effect was “undone” with a little polish. A barb wire headband was worn by some models
