Runway Beauty: Glam Rock at Creatures of the Wind S/S 2016

September 17th, 2015

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At Creatures of the Wind Spring/Summer 2016, models rocked a Siouxsie Sioux inspired glam rock look. “She always had a very strong eye look – it had the same spirit, but was applied differently each time. The look is very eclectic with a lot of layering, which plays off the layering in the collection. It’s punk, tough looking. I loved the richness of the gold against the toughness of the black. It’s an updated, modernized take on eyeliner,” explained de Mey.

The skin was first prepped with NARSskin Luminous Moisture Cream then perfected with Stick Concealer and set with Soft Velvet Loose Powder.

On the eyes, de Mey created a dramatic wing with a variety of products (Black Valley Eye Paint, Via Veneto Larger Than Life® Eyeliner, Black Moon Eyeliner Pencil and Pandora Duo Eyeshadow). The gorgeous gold was the result of Iskandar Eye Paint topped with glitter. Brows were kept groomed with Oural Brow Gel and Brow Perfector.

To finish, de Mey gave models two different lip looks – a red using Mysterious Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil and Nihiwatu Velvet Lip Liner; and a nude with just concealer and NARSskin Restorative Night Treatment.

On the nails, Hughes went for a simple yet bold look that was inspired by the hippie meets punk vibe of the collection. Four high-shine nail colors – white (Cotton Buds), blue (Skive), black (Union Jack Black) and yellow (Cotton Buds topped with Cheeky Chops)- were assigned to models based upon their look, and finished Patent-Gel Topcoat for a thick, high-shine finish.

Enchanted Beauty at Dolce & Gabbana A/W ’14

February 28th, 2014

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

At the Dolce & Gabbana A/W ’14 show in Milan, Pat McGrath, brand Creative Advisor of Dolce & Gabbana Make Up, created a makeup look evoking a feeling of “enchanted beauty” while Redken Creative Consultant Guido swept the hair up in a soft, romantic style.

To achieve a flawless base with an even skintone, Pat applied Perfect Luminous Liquid Foundation using the Foundation Brush. She started by creating an even base with one shade, blending it from the central point of the face outward until the product flowed seamlessly to the hairline and jaw. Then, Pat applied a paler tone around the eyes and on forehead, nose, cheeks and chin to achieve an illuminated finish. Finally, Pat then contoured the face by applying a light touch of Blush in Nude on the apples of the cheeks.

Turning her attention to the eyes, Pat applied the light shades of the Eyeshadow Quad in Desert all over the eyelid, followed by the new Perfect Mono – Cream Eye Color, the latest innovative mono eyeshadow from Dolce & Gabbana Make Up, set to arrive on counter at the end of June. This creamy shadow, which is easy to apply either with the tips of the fingers or with a brush, added further intensity and drama with a velvety, powdery finish. Pat used Perfect Mono in Cocoa in the crease of the eyes for further depth and mixed the shades Innocence and Gold Dust to highlight the eyelids.

To contour the eyes, Pat defined the upper and bottom lash lines by applying the Eyeliner in Black, drawing from the center to the outer corner. Along the top of the upper lash line, she drew a softly defined line of Intense Liquid Eyeliner in Black Intense to perfect the eye. Underneath, Pat outlined the bottom lashes once again using the Eyeliner in Black. The Eyeliner in Nude was then used to illuminate the inner corner of the eye.

On the upper lashes, layers of Intenseyes Mascara in Black Intense were applied, with Passioneyes Mascara in Terra applied to the bottom lashes for a volumized and curled lash look – the combination of the two mascaras made for a beautifully fresh and wide eyed finish.

The eyebrows are a key element of the look. Pat used the new Brow Liner in Soft Brown to draw and feather the brows, filling in the color using the nib of the pencil, and then brushing outwards to the end of the brow. Eyebrows are beautifully constructed, with a natural finish.

On the lips, Pat used the new Classic Cream Lipstick in Honey applied with the fingertips for a sophisticated nude effect. Then a hint of Perfect Luminous Concealer was used to even out the lips and illuminate, before a final touch of Sheer Shine Gloss in Acqua was applied to the center of the lips.

As a very final touch, Pat applied a light dust of the Pressed Powder.

To complement the look Pat chose the Nail Lacquer in Nude for a natural and elegant finish.

Hair
In order to achieve an airy quality to the hair, Guido first used Redken body full volume amplifier onto damp hair. Next, he added a spritz of Redken pillow proof blowdry two day extender before creating a loose braid and twisting it into a soft updo. “I used a very small amount of products to give the hair some friction and texture, but where it still felt soft. Once the hair was pinned back, I pulled out a few tendrils to add even more softness around the face. Dolce & Gabbana always take a soft approach to women’s beauty.” said Guido.

Celebrity Makeup: Get Katy Perry’s Makeup & Nail Look at 2013 AMAs

November 26th, 2013

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Last night at the 2013 American Music Awards, singer Katy Perry rocked a cute polka dot Oscar de la Renta strapless gown with matching nails and her signature red lip.

Celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey created the beautiful look on Katy using CoverGirl Cosmetics.

“The moment I saw Katy’s beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown I knew we would do a red lip. Pairing it with black liner and lots of lashes we created a look that is “classic Katy.”

I started with a sheer application of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Buff Beige #825. This foundation is perfect for the red carpet because it provides full coverage but can be blended sheerly for light yet durable coverage. It lasts forever and the 20 SPF is great for a daytime red carpet event because they have to stand in the sun for so long!

For the eyes, I started by creating a classic Hollywood eye line using CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire #410. I love this pencil because you can create the look of a liquid liner but it’s much easier to apply. I accentuated the crease of her lid using Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel #330 and finished with the new Bombshell Volume Mascara in Very Black #800 – it creates extreme volume!

I then set the foundation with a light dusting of CoverGirl + Olay Pressed Powder in Light #330 and warmed the apples of her cheeks with Clean Glow Blush in Roses #100. I finished the look with a classic bold red lip. I used CoverGirl LipPerfection in Hot #305 with matching liner. I used the liner to perfect her lip shape before applying color.”

The Bombshell Volume by LashBlast Mascara makes lashes ten times more noticeable than bare lashes! It’s amazing!”

Nails
To match the polka dots on Katy’s dress, celebrity manicurist Kimmie Kyees created a custom mani with 2 coats of Sally Hansen Triple Shine Nail Color in Slick Black as a base color. Then, she dotted on Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in White On to create the polka dot effect. For a flawless seal and shine, Kimmie used Sally Hansen Triple Shine Top Coat to finish the look.
