Welcome to Fab Over Forty Makeup Makeovers Book Review and Giveaway!

Lets face it, everyone loves a makeover story, right? Someone goes from a plain Jane look to a diva in a matter of a few hours.  But, does she keep up the look when all she has time at home to give herself is maybe 10 minutes to do her makeup and not an hour?  I’ve often wanted to follow up with women who’ve had them publicly done to see if she is still keeping up the look at home. Well, now you can do your own makeover in the time YOU have to do it yourself.   Robert Jones’ newest book Makeup Makeovers in 5, 10, 15, 20 Minutes: Expert Secrets for Stunning Transformations is here to help you give yourself the makeover you want in your time.

Robert Jones is president of simple beaute and a well-known hair and makeup artist with a client list that spans from Marie Claire, Elle magazines and more to Sheryl Crow, Diahann Carroll, Nexxus, Bergdorf Goodman and more.  He has a line of makeup brushes and organizational tools and plans to launch his own line of signature makeup.

In the book he gives us demonstrations and step-by-steps on how to create the look we’re after.  Giving us exactly what tools and products are needed.  He also gives us snippets of advice like “Anytime you’re using bright colors on the eye, you need to ground them with neutrals” and “Playing matte against shimmer creates a natural glow” and how to create a 5 minute evening look – no need to spend half an hour to look all glamorous for that night out.  There’s also a glamorous 20 minute look if you are so inclined to spend more time.  There’s a look for every level of time and every level of look.

I am thrilled that Robert’s book has so many photographs of step-by-step on where to place which eye shadow color and which brush to use to create the look, and how to get a flawless canvas, and really where to place that shimmer on the cheeks.  All these pieces and more are so useful and easy to follow along that you never have to worry again about how to get a beautiful look in the time you have available.

For a limited time while supplies last, when you order your book from Barnes and Noble or Amazon, just email your receipt with your mailing address to brushpromo@robertjonesbeauty.com and you will be sent the Robert Jones’ #28 eyeshadow blending brush free!  A $21 value.  But only while supplies last.   And you’ll notice he uses this brush quite often in the book.

That’s not the only thing being given away.   Fab Over Forty is starting the new year out with a giveaway of the book Makeup Makeovers in 5, 10, 15, 20 Minutes, offered by the publishing company to one luck reader of Fab Over Forty.  Here’s what you have to do to enter:

Dior Spring Collection 2012 – Garden Party Color Collection

January 6th, 2012 by Sarah No comments »

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Welcome to Fab Over Forty Dior Spring Collection 2012 – Garden Party Color Collection

I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends…

Dior Spring Collection 2012 called Garden Party Color Collection is just hitting stores this January.  It’s hard to believe that Spring Collections are here when the calendar just flipped over to 2012, but they are here. This Dior collection is inspired by the fantastic Granville garden of Christian Dior. Located on the cliffs of Normandy, the elements of strong winds seemed unsuitable for a garden, but his creative strength and relentless hard work defied nature. Today one can still admire the garden in bloom and in particular, the fantastic rose garden planted by Christian Dior’s own hands. It sounds lovely and wouldn’t it be fun to have a party there, like he used to host many years ago!

To me the star piece in the collection is the pale pink minaudiere.  For Holiday 2010 they created a minaudiere similar to this in black and with a ball clasp, now for spring 2012 it is a pale pink version and a double rose clasp adorns the top instead. Inside you will find a full mirror on the one side and three eye shadows, a Lip Maximizer and an Ultra Gloss on the other.  The lip products are protected by a silver flap door so no shadow residue will get in.  It’s available in two color families – the grey shades (top) are a Nordstrom and Dior.com exclusive and the brown/pink one (bottom) is more widely available. $75 each

There are also 2 limited edition 5 Couleur Palettes that are embossed with roses on a tulle pattern $59 ea. The one, Garden Pastels may be difficult for most women over 40 to attempt to wear, but the other, Garden Roses may have a larger audience.  Both are fresh and spring-like in their own way.

In addition to the variety of shadows for the collection, there is a few new lipsticks and glosses and a nail lacquer duo that is rose scented and said to last up to 4 days after applying! $23 ea.

Waterlily #504 and Forget-Me-Not #694

The lipsticks are lovely and soft spring shades.   The two lipsticks are in the Rouge Dior formula – a creamy longer wearing formula than Dior Addict. $32 ea.  The Ultra Gloss is available in Pretty Rose #452 and Party Lilac #396.  The rose is more of a coral rose and the lilac shade is a nice sheer shade.

Corolle Pink #363 (left) and Tulip Pink #448 (right)

And lastly, two other additions to the extensive Spring 2012 Collection are the new 3 Couleur palettes. I have not seen these in person yet, but the Smoky Roses (top) shades were highly missed when they released the 3 Couleur palettes last fall.  The Smoky Garden trio (below) is an online Dior.com exclusive.  I hope these are actually part of the permanent collection, but I have not heard for sure.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this collection.  I think most of it is wearable for women over 40, and it’s soft, pretty, and fresh.  I suspect the minaudiere will be popular and one of the first items in the collection to sell out quickly.

Have a Fabulous 2012!

January 6th, 2012 by Sarah No comments »

Celebrity Makeup News and Blogs:

Welcome to Fab Over Forty Have a Fabulous 2012!

As they say, where does time go?  What a crazy year 2011 has been, and even though I’ve had some pretty amazing opportunities with Fab Over Forty, I can honestly say I can’t wait to close the door on 2011 as looking to the future holds so much more promise.   My year started out with Redbook magazine asking me to be on their panel of  Beauty Experts for their “Most Valuable Beauty” issue.   What a fun time that was – snowstorm and all, heading to NYC to meet with magazine editors, doctors, beauty specialists and more.   Then I worked with Ladies’ Home Journal  for their beauty issue and Aveeno asked me to be one of their ambassadors with the opportunity to head to the Independent Spirit Awards.  I was awe-struck with the Hollywood stars for certain.   All this and it wasn’t even March!  My year continued with being quoted in Shape and Women’s World magazines and heading to Montreal to Daniele Henkel to learn about some pretty amazing equipment coming to the US.  I also spoke at the Beauty Bash in NYC in October and had a wonderful time meeting many of the women from our Fashion Flash group!

All that and you may be wondering why I can’t wait to close the door on 2011.  Well, personally it was a tough year.  In the spring a very dear friend passed away and changed many things in my day-to-day life. Unemployment struck our family like so many other families across the world (happy to report that has now changed!), which meant I took on additional work so along with the blog I was working 70+ hours a week for about nine months straight.  I know it wasn’t healthy for me and my blog also suffered. Sometimes we just do what we have to do.  I don’t tell you this for any other reason than to explain my sometime-absence and sometimes not putting my heart into the blog. I have just been plain old worn out!  I look forward to all of that changing for the better in 2012!

Resolutions – do you have any? I think for me I resolve to work less and enjoy more!  We all could use that in our lives.  I thank each and every one of you for sticking with Fab Over Forty.  I keep going not only because it’s a passion of mine, but because you all mean so much to me.  I wish you all a wonderful 2012! I would love to hear from you and what your plans for 2012 are – I think hearing other’s plans are very inspiring to all and keep us “Fabulous over 40″!
